The collection of local option sales tax continues to improve in the county of Carroll. The year 2021 is the best year of collections in the past nine years, according to statistics released by the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce.

Local Sales Tax Collections Best in Nine Years

The collection of local option sales tax continues to improve in the county of Carroll. The year 2021 is the best year of collections in the past nine years, according to statistics released by the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce.

In 2021, the total collections was $6,854,537 for January through October. That compares to the same period in 2020 of $5,172,018, an improvement of $1,682,519 in 2021 as compared to 2020. Collections in each month of 2021 were better than the same month in any of the previous eight years (back to the year 2013).

Fifty percent of all local option sales tax collections, essentially one-half of the 2.75 percent of the 9.75 percent total sales tax rate, goes to local school systems, based on a pro-rated share based on per pupil census basis.
