New Roadside Signs Honor State Champs

Posted

McKenzie (May 10) — The first of up to five roadside signs was unveiled on Tuesday, May 10, along State Route 22 near Carroll Lake. McKenzie Lady Rebels are the Class 1A TSSAA state basketball champions. Dani Dyer, the lone senior member, had the honor of unveiling the sign by removing the plastic covering.

Mayor Jill Holland said the city purchased the signs. Coach John Wilkins had input on the wording.

On the far left and right, Mayor Holland and Councilman Bobby Young thanked the team members for honoring the city for an outstanding season and a state championship. Holland’s son was on the most recent state champion team for McKenzie, baseball in 2006. Her dad was on the first state championship baseball team, 1930.
