Judge Vicki Snyder is Candidate for Court of Criminal Appeals Appointment

PARIS (October 13) — Long-time Henry County General Sessions and Juvenile Court Judge Vicki S. Snyder is one of five applicants the Governor’s Council for Judicial Appointments will consider when it meets to select nominees for the Court of Criminal Appeals opening in the Western Section created by the retirement of the Honorable Alan E. Glenn. The other four applicants are Donald H. Allen (Jackson), Kyle C. Atkins (Jackson), John W. Campbell Sr. (Memphis) and Robert W. Wilson (Memphis). Allen and Atkins are Circuit Court Judges in the 26th Judicial District, Campbell is a Criminal Court Judge in the 30th Judicial District and Wilson is an Assistant Attorney General.

Snyder was appointed to the position of General Sessions and Juvenile Court Judge on May 15, 2006 and elected September 1, 2006.

Snyder graduated with honors from the University of Tennessee at Martin in May 1980. She graduated from the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law at the University of Memphis in 1985. She worked as a law clerk for the Shelby County Court, was an Assistant District Attorney General for the 24th District, as well as an Assistant District Public Defender for the 24th District before her election as judge. Snyder has been a resident of Henry County for 34 years and resident of Tennessee her entire life.

The Council will hold a public hearing on November 10 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. CST at the Jackson Supreme Court Building located at #6 Highway 45 By-Pass, Jackson to consider the candidates. Interested individuals, including any members of the public, may attend the public hearing. All visitors who want to attend the hearing at the Jackson Supreme Court Building must check-in with building security and mention that they are present to observe the Governor’s Council for Judicial Appointments Public Hearing.

The Council is expected to vote immediately following the interviews and will forward three names to Governor Bill Lee for his consideration.
