Citizens Offered Limited Viewing of Time Capsule Contents

HUNTINGDON (July 22) — The contents of the time capsule, buried in July 1972, was placed on display last Thursday and Friday for a limited-time showing.

Most of the contents was damaged or destroyed because the vault had leaked during the 50-year burial on the courthouse lawn. The vault was opened last week to find the waterlogged contents.

On display at the Exhibit Building at the Carroll County Fairgrounds, were tables of items including coins, film, golf balls, horse shoe, a Bible, a souvenir plate from the McKenzie Centennial celebration, an electric transformer, possibly made by Basler Electric, copies of The McKenzie Banner and Tennessee Republican newspapers, cassette tapes, a shirt - possibly made by Publix Shirt Company, and lots of little items.

There was no catalog of items that were placed in the vault in 1972.

The Carroll County Chamber of Commerce indicated the items will again be displayed after some cleanup.
