Washburn Takes Oath As Attorney

Posted

DRESDEN (December 29) — Dresden native James Russell Washburn completed his journey to become an attorney at law Tuesday, December 29, when he was administered the oath of office by Weakley County General Sessions Judge Tommy Moore to become the newest member of the Weakley County Bar. The ceremony was in the Weakley County Courthouse with physical distancing and a limited number of attendees because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
James will practice law as an associate attorney with (Jeff) Washburn and (Paul) Hutcherson Law Firm in Dresden. He plans to engage in a general law practice but will focus his practice in the areas of criminal law, civil litigation, family law and estate planning.
James is a 2008 graduate of Dresden High School, served four years (2009-2013) in the United States Marine Corps, received his undergraduate degree from the University of Louisville and graduated from the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law with a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree in 2020. James received a Purple Heart after he was combat wounded in Afghanistan.
Washburn’s father, Jeff Washburn, a founding attorney of the firm and mayor of Dresden made the statement “James’ entire family is so proud of him not only for this accomplishment, but for his service to his country and for returning home to provide service and leadership to his community in the years ahead.

“Too often our best and brightest leave their hometowns after high school to go off to college or other pursuits never to return. James and his wife, Audrea, both chose to come back home and give back to the area where they were born and raised. Quite an accomplishment in itself.
“I certainly include my thankfulness for his service in the Marines and to our country in my congratulations of his determination and devotion to goals that are both personal and that will benefit his community and country.”
James married Audrea Martin of Gleason in August, 2020.
Washburn’s wife, Audrea, and other family members along with Weakley County Chancery Judge Mike Maloan were present to watch him take the oath as a new attorney at law.
James is the son of Jeffery and Jennifer Washburn of Dresden and Pattie and Tracy Nutting of Martin. He is the grandson of Ramona Washburn and the late James Lloyd Washburn of McKenzie.
