The West Carroll Lady War Eagles topped the McKenzie Lady Rebels 7-5 in a contest on Monday, April 17. The Lady Rebels had four errors that cost them two runs that put the Lady War Eagles on top.
Both teams were scoreless and hitless until the second inning. The Lady Rebels left two on base after a double by Payton Ognibene and Kassidy Brown taking one for the team.
The Lady War Eagles had one hit during the second inning. Kaylee Butler singled up the middle but was left stranded after two flyouts to McKenzie.
The Lady Rebels put the first run on the board during the top of the third. Katie Chesser singled to right field. Savannah Davis bunted to the catcher to move Chesser to second base. Briley Auvenshine singled to left field to score Chesser. The Lady Rebels led 1-0 going into the bottom of the third inning.
West Carroll scored all seven of their runs in the third inning. Janzen Winberry walked down the line to first base. Kailey Hall reached on an error. Kelsey Holmes bunted and reached first base. Skylar Jones reached on an error. Winberry and Hall scored on the same error. With two runners on, Claire Browning hit a home run over the center field fence to put the War Eagles ahead 5-1. Mary Milsaps walked down the chalk. Butler doubled to left field. Karma Wilkey reached second on an error. Milsaps crossed the plate on the outfield error. Autumn Houston walked down the first base line, then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Butler scored on the wild pitch and Wilkey moved to third base. Hall walked the chalk to fill the bases again. The Lady War Eagles left the bases full as the inning came to a close. West Carroll led 7-1 at the end of the third inning.
The Lady Rebels added one run to the scoreboard during the top of the fourth. Kassidy Brown doubled to center field. Carli Beeler doubled to the right-center gap to score Brown. The Lady Rebels trailed the Lady War Eagles 7-2 going into the fifth.
The Lady Rebels chalked up one run in the top of the fifth. Chesser singled in the infield. Davis advanced Chesser to second base. Ognibene singled to left field to score Chesser. The Lady War Eagles held a 7-3 lead over the Lady Rebels.
The Lady Rebels held the Lady War Eagles with bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth. Auvenshine struck out two batters and Brown had a put out.
The teams were held scoreless in the sixth inning. The Lady Rebels chalked up two runs during the top of the seventh. Chesser singled to right field. Davis doubled to left field. Auvenshine singled to the left side to score Chesser. Davis scored on the throw. Ognibene and Auvenshine were left stranded on base as the game came to an end. The Lady Rebels fell to the West Carroll Lady War Eagles 7-5.
Payton Ognibene toed the rubber first for the Lady Rebels. Ognibene pitched three innings allowing six runs and had three strikeouts. Briley Auvenshine relieved her in the third to allow only one run. Auvenshine struck out eight batters and allowed two hits.
Karma Wilkey threw all seven innings for the Lady War Eagles. Wilkey stuck out four batters, allowed ten hits and only walked one batter.
The Lady War Eagles are set to travel to Bruceton on Monday, April 24. West Carroll’s next home game will be Tuesday, April 25 against the Perry County Lady Vikings.
The Lady Rebels traveled to Milan on Monday, April 24. McKenzie then will play host to the Dresden Lady Lions on Tuesday, April 25. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
