Weekend Rain Eases Near-Drought Conditions

Posted

In the past week, northwest Tennessee has experienced hot temperatures with heat indexes up to 115 degrees. Eddie Holmes with West Tennessee Weather Online reported a Heat Advisory in the area Monday, July 4 through Wednesday morning. Beginning Wednesday morning, meteorologist Holmes issued an excessive heat warning through July 8 in northwest Tennessee.

After almost a week without rain, Carroll County, Henry County, and Weakley County were declared in a moderate drought area July 7 by WBBJ meteorologists.

The area’s dry conditions left grounds in a vulnerable position, helping cause a soybean field fire in McKenzie July 8.

Scattered storms and a cold front beginning early Saturday morning eased some of the area’s near-drought conditions. Saturday morning’s precipitation reached nine-tenths of an inch.

Temperatures and heat indexes are not expected to reach or exceed 100 degrees July 11-17 according to Eddie Holmes.
