West Carroll Eliminated in The Class 1A Second Round

Posted
For the second time in three weeks, West Carroll had the task of playing a three-time defending state champion.

The second meeting came in the second round of the Class 1A playoffs with the season on the line.

The two scores were identical as Peabody eliminated West Carroll with a 48-0 victory in the Class 1A second round.

“Peabody is a really good football team, and they are going to be playing longer than most teams in the state,” West Carroll coach Clayton Morris said. “They have a chip on their shoulder and expectations to live up to. We ran into a buzz saw in the beginning and were never able to recover.”

West Carroll ends the season at 8-4, the third time in four years for the War Eagles to earn eight wins in a season.

After being held to three rushing yards in Week 11, Peabody’s defense held the War Eagles to zero yards rushing on 19 attempts in the playoffs.

West Carroll’s passing game did improve as the War Eagles were 4-for-11 for 112 yards.

The Golden Tide scored three touchdowns in each of the first two quarters to hold a 42-0 lead at halftime.

West Carroll quarterback Xander Moon missed half of the second quarter and the third quarter after taking a hard hit, but he did come back in the fourth quarter.

“I think this season, we exceeded expectations,” Morris said. “We didn’t have an offseason, so credit the kids. The kids stuck together. The kids battled. Moving forward, the seniors laid a good foundation, and we know what to expect. I am really excited about the future of the program.”

West Carroll graduates six seniors, including Moon and three starting linemen in Wyatt Hays, Hayden Hilliard and Hunter Lindsey.
