Greenfield Lady Yellowjackets Advance to Semifinals in ‘Boro

MURFREESBORO (March 6) — The Lady Yellowjackets of Greenfield (22-10) picked up a big win Thursday evening as they knocked the North Greene (26-10) Lady Huskies out of the TSSAA Girls State Basketball Tournament. Greenfield took an early lead in the opening minutes and never lost their momentum winning 55-49 in the quarterfinal round.

MILAN (March 1) — The 11th annual Milan Lions Club Sight Bowl was held at Milan’s newly renovated stadium on March 1. The scrimmage featured the Milan Bulldogs and the McKenzie Rebels.
The Milan Lions Club is hosting the annual ‘Sight Bowl’ this Friday night between the Bulldogs of MHS and the defending Class 1A state runners-up, the McKenzie Rebels. The scrimmage game is at Johnnie Hale Stadium, Milan at 5 p.m.
McKENZIE (February 23) — Perry County came out hot scoring the first five points of the quarter. McKenzie quickly retaliated with a basket from Madeline Gottshall and a three from Molly French.
Savannah Davis, a McKenzie senior, is among the finalists for Miss Basketball.

HUNTINGDON (February 16) — On Friday night, the Huntingdon Fillies hosted Stewart County for the District 12-AA tournament championship game.

MURFRESSBORO (February 2) — Winning a state tournament is a rare feat and the Huntingdon Middle School Mustangs pulled off even a rarer feat Saturday on the campus of Middle Tennessee Christian School in Murfreesboro. The Mustangs defeated Decatur County 56 – 21 to earn a state title in back-to-back years, becoming the first sport in the history of Huntingdon Middle School to win two consecutive state championships.
HUNTINGDON (February 1) — On Thursday evening, Huntingdon Middle School recognized many of the 2023-24 athletes in their respective sports at their annual athletic banquet. Head Coach Trevor Burlison presented the HMS football awards following their undefeated season. MVP: Hayes Eubanks; Offensive Player of the Year: K’Shun Carter; Defensive Player of the Year: Gavin Gray; Most Improved: Ayden Woods; Defensive Back Award: Keimonte Strayhorn; Lineman Award: Garvin Kee; Captain Award: K’Shun Carter and Gavin Gray; Mustang Award: Haven Dillahunty.
Sadarius Hutcherson, a Huntingdon graduate and native, continues to keep his football career alive. From the University of South Carolina to blocking for Tom Brady in the NFL, Hutcherson has landed in Washington, D.C. with the Defenders in the UFL.

Bethel Men’s Indoor Track Season Ends

BROOKINGS, S.D. — The Bethel University Men's Track team ended one of the best indoor track performances in Bethel history. The Distance-Medley relay who won the Mid-South Conference Championship, ended up 22nd in the nation. All-American Joseph Skoog continued his historic run after finishing runner-up in the 3000m and then bouncing back in the 5000m to finish third. Skoog was coming off a Mid-South Conference Championship. The ceiling is high for Bethel's Track team as they now prepare to be ready for outdoor competition.

Cats Go Down but Not Without a Fight

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — The No. 6 seeded Bethel Wildcats fell to the No. 3 seeded Georgetown Tigers 80-70 Saturday night in the quarterfinals of the Mid-South Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament in Bowling Green. The Wildcats trailed by 16 at the half but battled back and gave the Tigers all they wanted and more in the second half.

CANTON, Ohio (February 8) — Former Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central High School and San Francisco 49ers linebacker Patrick Willis was named one of seven players inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s 2024 class on Thursday night. Willis, a native of Bruceton, left an indelible mark on the game with his exceptional talent and dedication to the sport.

McKENZIE — Senior Rebel Cheerleaders: Ava Jones. She is the 18-year old daughter of Kevin and Melissa Jones. Ava plans to attend UTM and major in biology.

Gleason Seniors Honored on Last Regular Season Home Game

GLEASON (February 6) — Gleason Basketball Senior Night recognized nine outstanding seniors who have given their time and talents for the Bulldog program and who participated in their last regular season home basketball game at Gleason School. Each player was joined by their parents, family and special loved ones on the court. Seniors were presented with a commemorative plaque by their head coach and Gleason School.
