McKENZIE (November 26) — McKenzie Middle School hosted West Carroll Monday for its final home games of the season. The Lady Rebels coasted to a 52-17 win in the opener, but the boys played a thriller. The War Eagles kept it close for three quarters to trail by just three points going into the fourth, but the Rebels pulled away late for a 40-26 victory.
Eighth grade players and cheerleaders were recognized on the court between games. Eighth grade cheerleaders are Alajah Gilbert, Allie Laser, Anna Claire Patel and Lilly Sumrok. Lady Rebels are Briley Auvenshine, Ashlyn Burnine, Hannah Dillingham, Madison Gilbert, Caley McCaslin, Payton Ognibene, Katie Prather, Kylie Reynolds and Aaliyah Teague. Rebels are Zach Aird, Ralph Dennie, Jr., Bryant Haynes, Kendall Seavers, Bryson Steele, Marquez Taylor, Etijay Tharpe and Zay Webber.

Lady War Eagles 17
The Lady Rebels took an 11-5 lead after the opening frame, led by Briley Auvenshine with six points. Payton Ognibene had three points, and Kylie Reynolds had a pair. Kaylee Butler scored five points for West Carroll.
McKenzie pulled away with an 18-6 advantage in the second quarter. MiKaela Reynolds led with seven points, including a three-pointer. Savannah Davis scored six. Aaliyah Teague had four points, and Auvenshine hit a free throw. Butler scored all six for the Lady War Eagles. At the half, the Lady Rebels led 29-11.
The Lady Rebels enjoyed a 14-4 tilt in the third, led by K. Reynolds with seven, inlcuding a three. Teague, Ognibene and Caley McCaslin each had a pair, and Auvenshine hit another freebie. Butler and Janzen Winberry each had a pair for West Carroll. Entering the final frame, the Lady Rebel lead was 43-15.
McKenzie closed the win with a quick, 9-2 fourth. Davis and Teague each scored three points. Hannah Dillingham had a pair, and Nicole Gibson hit a free throw. Lady War Eagle Kymbrianna Ross had two points.
Lady War Eagle Kaylee Butler led all scorers with 13 points.
Savannah Davis, Kylie Reynolds and Aaliyah Teague each had nine points for McKenzie, Reynolds with a three-pointer. Briley Auvenshine scored eight, and MiKaela Reynolds had seven, including a three.
Rebels 40, War Eagles 26
The War Eagles had a 5-4 edge after the first frame, led by Jayden Taylor with three points. Brock Polinski had a pair. Etijay Tharpe scored all four for McKenzie.
The Rebels outscored West Carroll 12-10 in the second quarter to take the lead. Marquez Taylor led with six points, and Tharpe and Zach Aird each hit a three-pointer. War Eagles T.J. Taylor and Will Robinson each hit a three, and Polinski and J.D. Pigue each had a pair. At the half, McKenzie led 16-15.
McKenzie added to the lead with an 8-6 tilt in the third, led again by M. Taylor with six. Bryant Haynes had a pair. Pigue hit a three for West Carroll, and J. Taylor also scored three points. Heading into the final frame, the Rebels led 24-21.
The Rebels pulled away in the fourth with a 16-5 advantage, led by M. Taylor with eleven points. Bryson Steele scored three points, and Zay Webber had a pair. J. Taylor hit a three for the War Eagles, and Robinson added a pair.
Rebel Marquez Taylor led all scorers with 23 points. Etijay Tharpe had seven, including a three-pointer.
Jayden Taylor led West Carroll with nine points, including a three.
