Virginia Hodges Jeter

GLEASON  - Virginia Hodges Jeter, was born the second of 11 children to the late Roy Roscoe and Tenne Aileen Hodges on November 15, 1924, in the Liberty community. She departed this earthly life on Friday, July 28th, 2023 at the age of 98.

A lifelong member of the Gleason community, Virginia first attended Parks School before finishing her education at Gleason School.  After graduating, she began working as a nurse assistant to Dr. R.M. Jeter. It is during this time she met her lifelong love, Jack – Dr. Jeter’s younger brother. She and Jack married November 7, 1946. In 57 years of marriage, they raised three children, Gail, Jere, and Robert. A devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother- Virginia will be remembered by her deeply rooted faith, expression of love for others, insightfulness, and her skills as an amazing southern cook.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Ward Jeter, parents, Roy Roscoe and  Tenne Aileen Hodges, and seven siblings, Martha Nell Poyner, Mary Jane Higgs, Margaret Ann Calvert, Bettye Faye Bell, John Robert Hodges, Tommy Hodges, and Roy Lee Hodges. Leaving behind three children, Robert (Rita) Jeter of Gleason, TN, Jere Jeter of Franklin, Tenn., and Gail (Kerry) Campbell of Nashville, Tenn.. She is also survived by three siblings, Charles (Brooke) Hodges of Huntingdon, Tenn., Susan (Thomas) Allen Bradberry and Janis (Harlan)Featherstone, both of Christmasville, Tenn. 

Virginia leaves behind seven grandchildren, Brooke McClure, Tamara Turbyville, Paul Jeter, Elizabeth Rutledge, John Campbell, Kristen Baker, and Karen Hollars. She also leaves behind 20 great-grandchildren. Virginia also leaves many close friends at the Lakeside Senior Living Community.

Services for Virginia Hodges Jeter, were held Monday, July 31, 2023 at Gleason First United Methodist Church, where Jack and Virginia were faithful members. Virginia was laid to rest in the Bandy-Jeter (plot) in Hopewell Cemetery, Gleason.
