AJ’s Cafe Burns in Huntingdon

HUNTINGDON (November 12) — AJ’s All-Star Cafe, located at 12660 Lexington Street, in downtown Huntingdon, was heavily damaged by fire on Wednesday morning, November 12.

Huntingdon Fire Chief John Fordon, said the fire originated in the kitchen when grease ignited. Attempts to extinguish the fire slowed the blaze before it rekindled and expanded.

Chief Fordon said the staff evacuated the customers and staff as firefighters responded in approximately 30 seconds from their fire station, just two buildings away.

Firefighters attacked the fire from inside the building and established an overhead deluge stream from the ladder truck to keep the fire from spreading to other parts of the building. The kitchen and the nearest dining room were heavily damaged. The entire building was heavily damaged by smoke.

Firefighters from Huntingdon and Carroll County stations 1,4, and 11 remained on the scene until approximately 12:30 p.m.

Jason Postlethwait, owner, plans to reopen in the coming months and is now working to remove the burned debris from the building.
