Rebels Dominate Irish to Begin District Play

McKENZIE (March 31) — The McKenzie High School Rebels began district baseball play Monday, hosting Houston County and slugging their way to an 11-4 victory.

McKENZIE (April 14) — McKenzie Middle School boys soccer celebrated Eighth Grade Night during Monday's match against Henry County at Walter Butler Stadium on the campus of Bethel University.
BRADFORD (April 11) — The McKenzie High School Rebels got the long ball working in a big road win Friday, 10-5, over the Bradford Red Devils. Five home runs, including two by Craegen Travis, highlighted two big innings that sealed the win for McKenzie.
JACKSON (March 21) — The McKenzie High School Rebel soccer team traveled Friday to face Jackson Christian School and played to a 2-2 draw.

Lady Rebels Lose District Game Despite Two Homers

ERIN (March 14) — McKenzie High School opened district softball play Friday with a road contest at Houston County. The host Lady Irish took an early lead, but the Lady Rebels pulled closer with fourth-inning home runs by Braylin Auvenshine and Ady Freeman before falling, 8-5.

Area Sports This Week

Spring sports are underway with the following contests scheduled for The Banner’s reporting week of Tuesday, March 11 through Monday, March 17.

DOVER — The District 12AA tournament continues at press time as snow has pushed the four-school tournament back by two days.
Area high school basketball teams saw district tournaments disrupted by winter weather last week. Some districts have since completed their tournaments, but others are still in process. Region tournament schedules had not been released as of The Banner’s press deadline.
UT Vols Chronicles Huntingdon’s Hunter Ensley in a documentary on Youtube. Ensley was born in Alaska and moved to Huntingdon, Tenn.. where he was a two-sport top athlete in baseball and football.

Lady Cats Fall in National Semi-Finals

SIOUX City, Iowa — Bethel’s historic season came to an end Monday night in the NAIA Women’s National Semi-finals in Sioux City, Iowa as the Lady Wildcats fell 84-52 to the defending champion Dordt Defenders.

Lady Rebels End Season with Semifinal Loss

WAYNESBORO (March 3) — The McKenzie High School Lady Rebels ended their season Monday with a 62-28 loss in the semifinal round of the Region 6A Girls Basketball Tournament to the tournament host Wayne County Lady Wildcats.

CLIFTON (March 1) — Frank Hughes High School hosted the McKenzie Rebels Saturday for a Region 6A Boys Basketball quarterfinal.

McKENZIE (February 25) — The District 14A Girls Basketball Tournament concluded Tuesday at Bethel University with consolation and championship games.

McKENZIE (February 26) — The Gleason High School Bulldogs are runner-up in the District 14A Boys Basketball Tournament hosted by Bethel University after a 61-37 loss to Union City in Wednesday’s championship game.
