Bethel’s Madison Hart Closing in on 1,000 Points

McKENZIE — Prior to the season, eighteen players had scored 1,000 points in their basketball careers as a Lady Wildcat.

CAMDEN (December 3) — McKenzie High School traveled to Camden Tuesday for a pair of basketball contests. The Lady Rebels trailed by four at the half, but took the lead in the third en route to a 47-42 victory. The Rebels had a two-point edge at the break, but the Lions rallied for a 60-52 win.
DECATURVILLE (December 6) — McKenzie traveled to Riverside High School Friday night for a pair of basketball contests. The Lady Panthers pulled away in the second quarter to top the Lady Rebels, 61-46. The Rebels rode an early lead to a 66-56 win.
JACKSON (November 26) — McKenzie High School traveled to Jackson Christian School Tuesday for a pair of basketball contests. The Lady Rebels kept the game in reach until the Lady Eagles pulled away in the fourth for a 58-43 win. The Eagles built their lead in the second quarter en route to a 66-39 win over a six-man Rebel squad.

McKENZIE (November 15) — Members of the McKenzie Touchdown Club presented the annual J.A. Abernathy Awards during halftime of Friday’s win.

Fillies Win Big Over Peabody, Mustangs Fall

HUNTINGDON (December 5) — Huntingdon High School hosted Peabody Thursday for a pair of basketball contests. The Fillies rode a dominant first half to a 66-36 victory. The Mustangs led by six at the half, but the Golden Tide stormed back to claim an 81-60 win.

HENDERSONVILLE (November 7-8) — The 2024 TSSAA State Cross Country Championships were last week at Sanders Ferry Park. McKenzie’s girls team, Huntingdon’s boys team and one individual Huntingdon girl qualified.
HUNTINGDON (November 8) — The Huntingdon Mustangs hosted the Loretto Mustangs in the opening round of the TSSAA Football Playoffs for Class 2A. In what started as a back-and-forth nail-biter, Huntingdon found its momentum and racked up a 63-28 victory. They advance to the second round to battle the Riverside Panthers.
It’s high school football playoff time in Tennessee, and several area teams are looking for deep runs and a trip to Chattanooga in early December. The journey begins Friday at 7 p.m. across the state.

Rebels Shake Off Slow Start for 28-0 Round Two Win

McKENZIE (November 15) — McKenzie High School hosted Eagleville Friday for a second-round contest in the TSSAA Football Playoffs. The Eagles held the Rebels to a single first-half touchdown, but McKenzie’s defense was even more staunch from start to finish for a 28-0 shutout victory.

McKENZIE (November 15) — The Bethel Wildcats closed their season Saturday in Walter Butler Stadium playing host to the Faulkner Eagles. It was Senior Day for the Wildcats with ceremonies taking place before the kickoff. It was also Pepsi MidAmerica Day at the stadium.

Dresden Sweeps McKenzie

McKENZIE (November 14) — McKenzie Middle School hosted Dresden Thursday for a pair of basketball contests. The Lady Rebels led for most of the game, but the Lady Lions rallied late for a 37-35 win. The Lions pulled away in the second half to defeat the Rebels, 48-31.

McKenzie Sweeps West Carroll

McKENZIE (November 5) — McKenzie Middle School hosted West Carroll Tuesday for a pair of basketball contests. In a low-scoring game, the Lady War Eagles dominated the first half, but the Lady Rebels stormed back late for a 16-14 win. The Rebels took a big lead early and coasted to a 43-16 victory.

Bethel Stadium Named in Honor of Dr. Walter Butler

McKENZIE (November 2) — The Walter Butler Stadium was officially dedicated to the recently retired president of the local, private four-year university.
The new sign was erected last week to mark the location of a planned golf practice facility.

Sports Writer Poll Ranks McKenzie In First Place, Huntingdon in Sixth

NASHVILLE (November 4) — The Tennessee Sports Writers Association announced football rankings after Week 11 on Monday, with the poll presented by CoachT.com. Top 10 teams in each of the six Division I classifications and Top 5 in three Division II classes were selected by TSWA members with first-place votes in parentheses and total points based on 10 points for a first-place vote through one point for a 10th-place vote.
