HUNTINGDON— Rodney Wright is in custody facing serious charges following a violent armed robbery at the local Cash Savers Grocery store late last month.

On August 26, 2026, at approximately 9:01 p.m., a masked gunman entered the Cash Savers Grocery store shortly before closing. The suspect walked directly to the store office, assaulted an employee by striking them twice, and stole over $2,500 in cash from both the register and the store safe.

Following the incident, Chief Jason L. Oliver of the Huntingdon Police Department mobilized a multi-agency task force. The collaborative operation included special agents from the 24th Drug Task Force under the direction of District Attorney Neil Thompson, the FBI, Carroll County Sheriff Eric Sawyers, and local investigators.

Through round-the-clock efforts—utilizing video surveillance, cell tower data, search warrants, grid searches, and processed physical evidence—investigators identified Wright, who lives in the immediate vicinity of the grocery store, as the primary suspect. Authorities noted that Wright allegedly plotted the robbery while facing an impending court appearance the following day regarding child support matters. He was initially taken into custody on the child support warrant while officers finalized evidence in the robbery investigation.

The investigation ultimately led to a full confession from Wright.

"We don't get the luxury of thinking—we have to know and then prove who did this," Chief Oliver said. "Be warned, we would like to send a message to Huntingdon and Carroll County: we like our jobs and have no problem doing them, so think about that unless you like jail."

Chief Oliver praised the support of the city board and the mayor for ensuring the rapid, thorough investigation, noting that while full details remain undisclosed pending upcoming court proceedings, the evidence gathered by the joint law enforcement team was overwhelming.
