September 11 Flag Commemoration

Dresden and Gleason will commemorate September 11 during a pre-game flag ceremony at the Dresden-Gleason football game in Dresden. A giant flag will be displayed during the ceremony. Woodman Life sponsors the flag.

Salsa Lessons From World-Famous Dancers

Bethel University Global Studies presents world-famous Swing Latino, which is teaching salsa lessons at Bethel in the Vera Low Center Boardroom. The event is conducted via Zoom on Monday, September 14, at 5:30 p.m.  Swing Latino performed during the halftime show of the Super Bowl. Now, they are teaching the Bethel and McKenzie community how to dance the salsa. 

Swing Latino is from Cali, Colombia, a city where Bethel students serve each March at a local Cumberland Presbyterian-sponsored school, teaching students.  Two Bethel graduates started the school.  Cali was recently damaged by an earthquake. 

BU Global Studies travels the world with local high school students, college students, and alumni, and approved community members. Come and learn how to salsa, and learn more about BU’s Global Studies.  For more information, contact Stacie Freeman at freemans@bethelu.edu.

Iris Festival Harvest Day

Dresden Iris Festival’s Harvest Day is October 24, 4-8 p.m. on the Courthouse Lawn in Dresden. The event includes pumpkin decorating, music, food trucks, and a dunking booth.

Fairview Missionary Baptist Homecoming

Homecoming at Fairview Missionary Baptist Church, 1375 Fairview Church Rd, McKenzie, is on Sunday, September 13. The Gospelaires sing at 10 a.m. Preaching is at 11 a.m. A fellowship meal will follow the service.

First Responders to be Honored by Lakeside Senior Living

Lakeside Senior Living Community will honor first responders for their service on September 11. This is a time to thank first responders in commemoration of September 11, 2001.

Between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 10 a.m., first responders can visit Lakeside, 390 Dr. Smith Drive, McKenzie, to receive free coffee, juice, pastry, and fruit, and lots of gratitude from the residents and staff. No RSVP required.

Shop with a First Responder Shoot September 12

McKenzie Fire/Rescue and McKenzie Police Department are hosting McKenzie Shop with a First Responder Shoot fundraising event on September 12, 2026 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Carroll County Shooting Sports Park at 680 McAdoo Cemetery Lane in Huntingdon, Tenn. to raise money for McKenzie Shop with a First Responder that happens in December.

McKenzie Alumni Association Decades Reunion

Plans are underway for the third annual MHSAA Decades Reunion weekend on September 25-26. All MHS alumni are invited to return to McKenzie to reconnect with friends, classmates, and former teachers through many reunions and other planned events. Cat Vouchers

Cat spay/neuter vouchers are always available for $60. To purchase by phone for use at Paris Vet Clinic, call 731-514-0878 and leave a message. These are available to anyone regardless of residency. We now offer cat vouchers to Carroll County residents for $60 at the Huntingdon Animal Clinic. These must be purchased in person at the shelter with cash or card, and proof of residency is required. However, Carroll Co. residents can still use Paris Vet Clinic if preferred.

McKenzie TOPS Meets Weekly

Win over weight with support and encouragement by meeting with the McKenzie Chapter of TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) each Monday at 3 p.m. in the McKenzie Church of Christ gymnasium. The first meeting is free. For more information, call 731-352-7309. If no answer, leave a message.

Carroll County Commission meets the second Monday of each month at 7 p.m., in the Conference Room of the Carroll County Office Complex, High Street, Huntingdon. No meetings in February and July.

Carroll County Democratic Party Meets Monthly

The Carroll County Democratic Party meets the second Saturday of every month at 10 a.m. at the Carroll County Complex at 625 High Street, Huntingdon.
