Evading Arrest, Resisting Arrest, Driving Without a License — On July 26, Deputy Dustin McClure responded to a report of a possible intoxicated driver traveling on Highway 70 toward Huntingdon. Deputy McClure observed a black 2016 Chevrolet Malibu traveling approximately 25 mph in a posted 55 mph zone and failing to maintain its lane multiple times. Based on his training and experience, Deputy McClure believed the driver could be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

After activating his emergency lights and siren, the driver accelerated by approximately 10 mph and continued driving without yielding. In an effort to stop the vehicle before it entered downtown Huntingdon traffic, Deputy McClure positioned his patrol vehicle in front of the suspect’s vehicle, forcing it to stop.

The driver, Octavio Guzman Garcia, 39, of out of county, refused repeated commands to exit the vehicle and pushed the deputy’s arm away as deputies attempted to remove him. Deputies removed Garcia from the vehicle after discovering he had failed to place it in park. While placing Garcia into a patrol vehicle, deputies observed he was slurring his words.

Garcia was transported to the Carroll County Jail and charged with felony evading arrest, resisting arrest and driving without a license.

Driving on Suspended License — On July 25, Deputy Dustin McClure observed Angela Lane, 44, of McKenzie, driving on Main Street in McKenzie.

Having prior knowledge that Lane’s driver’s license was suspended, Deputy McClure conducted a traffic stop near Linden and Maple streets.

Dispatch confirmed Lane’s Tennessee driver’s license had been suspended through Gleason City Court with an indefinite suspension. Deputy McClure advised Lane of her license status and explained the 10-day booking procedure at the Carroll County Jail.

Lane was cited for driving on a suspended license (first offense).

Animal Cruelty — On July 28, Deputy Bradley Hardin responded to Wingo Circle in Trezevant after receiving a report of a deceased dog tied to a pole. Upon arrival, deputies found the dog deceased after becoming wrapped around the pole.

The dog had been dead for an extended period.

Deputies made contact with Kenon Hutcherson, 28, of Trezevant, who stated he had only learned the previous night that the dog had died and claimed he had not been home for several days. When asked why the dog had not been buried, Hutcherson stated his grandfather was bringing him a shovel. Although Hutcherson denied his actions caused the dog’s death, Deputy Hardin determined the conditions in which the dog had been left were not conducive to its well-being, especially during the extreme heat.

Hutcherson was cited for animal cruelty and ordered to report to the Carroll County Jail for booking by Aug. 8.
