From the Aug 4, 2020 e-Edition
MEMPHIS — Erika Stotts Pearson, owner of OpesDei Health Solutions and co-founder of Memphis Academy of Health Sciences Charter School, announces her campaign for the U.S. House of Representatives District 8 seat in West Tennessee.
Ms. Stotts Pearson pledged to make sure that West Tennessee has a seat at the table in Washington and at the State Capitol in Nashville so that we can achieve a partnership to address issues facing the people of West Tennessee.
The U.S. House of Representatives District 8 seat is currently held by Representative David Kustoff. The Democratic primary for this federal Congressional office will be held in Tennessee August 6.
In announcing her congressional candidacy, Erika Stotts Pearson is committed to “honoring” our commitment to advancing equal educational opportunity for youth and bringing jobs with an economic improvement for all Tennesseans, social justice reform, women’s rights, protecting Social Security of workers who have paid retirement benefits all of their lives and our veterans who have sacrificed so much for us.
Our nation has failed to hold these states accountable for their students’ achievement gaps and flawed curriculum designs. Erika Stotts Pearson feels we have made considerable strides in Tennessee and Memphis with implementing accountability tools and educational opportunity through the state’s Choice scholarship, but more has to be done. We have to expand our reach into rural communities with increased funding from the state to allow those districts to grow.
She asks voters to choose her as House of Representatives District 8 candidate on Election Day, Thursday, August 6.
