First Responders Raise Funds For Christmas Program

HUNTINGDON (September 12) — McKenzie firefighters and police officers joined forces Saturday to raise money for local children through the annual McKenzie Shop with a First Responder Shoot.

The fundraising event was held Saturday at the Carroll County Shooting Sports Park in Huntingdon. The event was organized by McKenzie Fire/Rescue and the McKenzie Police Department, with proceeds benefiting the department’s Shop with a First Responder Christmas program.

The shooting event featured two flights, at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., with individual shooters participating for a $60 entry fee.

Money raised through the event will help provide Christmas gifts for children who might otherwise have a difficult holiday season. The Shop with a First Responder program pairs children with local first responders for a Christmas shopping experience in December.

The program has previously served children from the surrounding area. In 2025, organizers said more than 80 children received assistance through the program, with children identified through local schools, the city and community members who recognize a need. Organizers said children of all school ages are eligible, and younger siblings may also be included.

The September fundraiser is one of several efforts supporting this year’s Christmas program.

A Sonic Spirit Night is also scheduled for September 16, with 15 percent of participating sales benefiting McKenzie’s Shop with a First Responder Christmas program.

Organizers continue to accept donations to help provide Christmas gifts for local children.
