HMS Mustangs Romp to Win in Season Opener

 HUNTINGDON (August 6, 2026) — The Huntingdon Middle School Mustangs dominated a Trenton Rosenwald Bears Middle School squad in their season opener as they galloped to a 32-0 lead at the half and cruised to a 38-8 win over the visiting Bears at Paul Ward Stadium Thursday.

 Mustang running back Cohen Gray had a big first half as he rushed for 178 yards in the game and scored three touchdowns, with one coming on a 98-yard sprint to the end zone. Gray also had two successful runs on conversion attempts that gave him a total of 22 points scored for the game.

 The Mustangs ran for 304 yards in the game on only 14 attempts and attempted one pass. QB Bryce Maddox chipped in 20 yards on four carries and scored a touchdown. Jurrari Hughes ran four times for 23 yards and a touchdown, and Knox White carried three times for 33 yards and added a two-point conversion run.

 The Mustang defense held the Bears to 58 yards on the ground in the first half and 130 total for the game. The Bears were 0-5 passing and Huntingdon’s Nathan Huss intercepted a pass, and Tanner White recovered a fumble.

 The Mustangs scored on all four of their possessions in the first half in route to their 32-0 lead. The Mustangs scored on the opening possession of the game on a 13-yard run by Gray in the first two minutes of the game on a five-play drive from midfield. Gray added the conversion for an 8-0 lead.

 On the Mustangs' next possession, they started from the Bears 34, and one play later found the end zone with a 34-yard touchdown run by Gray with 2:26 left in the first. Gray’s conversion upped the score to 16-0.

 Huss then intercepted a Bears pass that ended a scoring threat after the Bears had reached the Mustang 15. Huss intercepted the pass at the Mustang 2, and on the first play after the turnover, Gray found a seam off the left side and outran everyone to the goal line for a 98-yard touchdown run. Brilyn Ford ran in the conversion and the score jumped to 24-0.

 The Mustangs' final score of the first half came after a fourth-down stop at the Bears' 28, giving the Mustangs a short field, and Maddox found a lane on the outside on a QB keeper and scored from eight yards with 54 seconds left in the half. White converted the two-point run, and the Mustangs led 32-0.

 Both teams scored once in the second half, and the Mustangs played a lot of their reserves with the game in hand. The Bears scored on a 23-yard run by QB Kylen Wells and Brayden Henson added the conversion to make the score 32-8.

 A Jurrari Hughes seven-yard run capped an eight-play 61-yard drive with 3:54 left in the game to cap the scoring and give the Mustangs a 1-0 record to begin the season.

 The Mustangs travel to Dresden this Thursday in search of their second win of the season in two attempts.
