Tri-County Publishing, Inc. dba The McKenzie Banner is seeking qualified news stringers to cover meetings, events and sporting events in the Carroll, Henry and Weakley County area of West Tennessee while representing The McKenzie Banner. This is a part-time, contract position with the possibility of full-time. Some nights, weekends and holidays required.
🚨 NEWS STRINGERS (Contract)
TERRITORY: McKenzie, Gleason
TERRITORY: Huntingdon, Hollow Rock, Bruceton, Clarksburg.
TERRITORY: West Carroll: Atwood, Trezevant, McLemoresville, Cedar Grove, Lavinia, etc.
TERRITORY: Paris, Henry County
News Job Duties
- Check for assignments.
- Take photos and video with camera and/or smartphone at meetings/events.
- Record meetings and interviews.
- Write stories in AP style using the inverted pyramid, correct spelling and grammar. Story length: 400-1,000 words as needed.
- Submit completed assignments within 24 hours after meetings/events.
- Submit original, unedited photos with completed story to editor.
- Notify editor of meeting/event changes, cancellations, or schedule conflicts asap.
- Notify editor of potential news.
- Follow-up on leads.
- Possible feature writing opportunities.
Candidate Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Reliable transportation.
- Clean background and drug test.
- Computer skills (PC), i.e. Google products.
- Internet and E-mail access.
- Word processing app, like Google Docs, Microsoft Word, etc.
- Basic knowledge of photography.
- Device with ability to update social platforms while on scene.

- Attention to detail.
- Fact check.
- Integrity.
- Positive attitude and kindness.
- Communicate and dress professionally.
- Basic knowledge of Facebook and Instagram.
Good to Know, but Not Required
- Photo editing experience.
- Use of transcription tools.
- InDesign and Photoshop experience.
- Knowledge of social media platforms.
- Sales & advertising experience.
- Customer service experience.
