Tri-County Publishing, Inc. dba The McKenzie Banner is seeking qualified sports stringers to cover sporting events in the Carroll, Henry and Weakley County area of West Tennessee while representing The McKenzie Banner. This is a part-time, contract position with the possibility of full-time. Some nights, weekends and holidays required.
🏆 SPORTS STRINGERS (Contract)
TERRITORY: McKenzie, Gleason
TERRITORY: Huntingdon, Hollow Rock-Bruceton.
TERRITORY: West Carroll, Clarksburg
Schedule: Varies based on assignment. Some nights, weekends and holidays.
Pay: $25-$50 Per event, pay scale based on experience.
Sports Job Duties
- Check for assignments.
- Take photos and video with camera and/or smartphone at sporting events.
- Record interviews / take notes.
- Photograph/request copies of statistics, scoring cards, or other relevant game results.
- Write stories in AP style using the inverted pyramid, correct spelling and grammar. Story length: 400-900 words as needed.
- Submit completed assignments within 24 hours after sporting events.
- Submit original, unedited photos with completed story to editor.
- Notify editor of potential event changes, cancellations, or schedule conflicts asap.
- Follow-up when relevant.
- Possible sports feature writing opportunities.
Candidate Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Reliable transportation.
- Clean background and drug test.
- Computer skills (PC), i.e. Google products.
- Internet and E-mail access.
- Word processing app, like Google Docs, Microsoft Word, etc.
- Basic knowledge of photography.
- Device with ability to update social platforms while on scene.
Relevant Skills
- Ability to read/understand statistics and the sport covered.
- Punctual and meets deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Integrity.
- Positive attitude and kindness.
- Communicate and dress professionally.
- Basic knowledge of Facebook and Instagram.
Good to Know, but Not Required
- Photo editing experience.
- Use of transcription tools.
- InDesign and Photoshop experience.
- Knowledge of social media platforms.
- Sales & advertising experience.
- Customer service experience.
