Lady Lions Survive Gleason Rally, Bulldogs Dominate Second Half

GLEASON (January 28) — Gleason High School hosted Dresden Tuesday for a pair of district basketball contests. The Lady Lions led by 28 after three quarters but had to hold off an explosive Lady Bulldog rally to claim a 63-48 win. The Lions led by three at the half, but the Bulldogs were dominant down the stretch to earn a 61-44 victory.

The Lady Lions jumped out to a 21-8 lead after the first frame, led by Allie Spaulding with a dozen points on four three-pointers. Heylee Jarred scored six. Mollie Oliver had a pair, and Kaylee Jarred hit a free throw. Lady Bulldogs Kadence Witherspoon and Ahmyre Allen each scored four points.

Dresden had a 22-12 advantage in the second quarter, led by K. Jarred with seven points, including a three-pointer. Spaulding and H. Jarred each scored five, Spaulding with a three. Molly Robinson hit a three, and Elizabeth Jarred had a pair. Lady Bulldog Hylan Leach scored six points. Brinley Lehmkuhl, Skylar Arnold and Madi Dean each had a pair. At the half, Dresden led 43-20.

The Lady Lions had a 14-9 edge in the third, led by H. Jarred with six points. Ellie Poole scored four, and K. Jarred and Gracie Adams each had a pair. Arnold led Gleason with four points. Leach hit a three, and Lehmkuhl added a pair. Entering the final frame, Dresden led 57-29.

The Lady Bulldogs rallied 19-6 in the fourth for the closer final, led by Arnold with eight points. Allen and Leach each scored four, Allen with a three-pointer. Lehmkuhl had three points. H. Jarred and K. Jarred each scored three points for Dresden.

Lady Lion Heylee Jarred led all scorers with 20 points. Allie Spaulding scored 17 with five three-pointers. Kaylee Jarred had 13 points with a three.

Skylar Arnold led the Lady Bulldogs with 14 points. Hylan Leach scored 13 with a three-pointer.

Dresden had a 17-15 lead after the opening frame, led by Arden Smith with 13 points, including a three-pointer. Miles Collins scored four. Bulldog Drake Lehmkuhl scored seven with a three. Parker Morgan had six on a pair of three-pointers, and Kade Sawyers had a pair.

The Lions had a 14-13 edge in the second quarter, led by Smith with nine, again with a three. Collins also hit a three, and Landon Floyd had a pair. Lehmkuhl led Gleason with nine points on a trio of threes, and Brody Sanders scored four. At the half, Dresden led 31-28.

The Bulldogs stormed ahead with a 20-4 advantage in the third, led by Lehmkuhl with ten points, including a three. Sawyers and Ashton Morgan each hit a three, and P. Morgan and Sanders each added a pair. Smith had all four Dresden points. Heading into the final frame, the Bulldogs led 48-35.

Gleason sealed the win with a 13-9 tilt in the fourth, led by Sawyers with six points, including a three. Lehmkuhl scored four, and A. Morgan hit another three-pointer. Collins hit a three for the Lions, and Floyd, Smith and Landon Cantrell each had a pair.

Bulldog Drake Lehmkuhl led all scorers with 30 points, including five three-pointers. Kade Sawyers scored eleven with a pair of threes.

Arden Smith led Dresden with 28 points, including a pair of threes. Miles Collins scored ten with a pair of three-pointers.
