McKenzie Carries Strong Season Finish into District Tournament
From the Sep 24, 2024 e-EditionThe McKenzie High School golf teams concluded the regular season Thursday at Persimmon Hills in Sharon, facing district foe Westview.
McKenzie split a pair of extremely close matches. The Lady Rebels fell by a single stroke, and the Rebels won by a single stroke in a tie-breaking playoff.
Lady Rebel Charli Weatherford had the team’s low score of 40, while Anna Claire Weatherford and Madelyn Morris each shot 53 for a team score of 93. Westview’s scores were 38 and 54 for a 92 total and a narrow victory.
Rebels Nolan Fawcett and Ace Brown each had McKenzie’s low score of 34. Carter Kee and Brady Allison each shot a 40. The 148 total was matched by Westview to force a playoff.
Fawcett and Brown faced two Westview counterparts in the playoff hole. The pair combined for a par score on the hole, while Westview shot one more stroke for a McKenzie win.
The Lady Rebels finish the season at 10-7. The Rebels are 24-7-1.
The District 14A tournament, held at Persimmon Hills, began Monday (after The Banner’s press deadline).
