McKenzie Dominates Bradford in Sweep

McKENZIE (January 6) — McKenzie High School hosted Bradford Monday for a pair of basketball contests and coasted to a pair of victories. The Lady Rebels made their mark in a lopsided third quarter for a 66-34 win. The Rebels pulled away in the second quarter en route to a 76-51 victory.
McKenzie Lady Rebels 66, Bradford Lady Red Devils 34
The Lady Rebels had a 13-8 edge after the opening frame, led by Jaycee Stafford with five points, including a three-pointer. Sophie Pate and Ava Hastings each hit a three, and Gracie Aird had a pair. Lady Red Devil Brooklyn Armstong scored four points, and Ashlyn Reynolds had a pair. Abby Glisson and Rylee Jorgensen each hit a free throw.
McKenzie doubled up Bradford 16-8 in the second quarter, led by Stafford with ten, including a pair of threes. Hastings scored four, and Aird added a pair. Glisson scored four for Bradford, and Reynolds and Armstong each added a pair. At the half, McKenzie led 29-16.
The Lady Rebels opened up the lead with an 18-4 advantage in the third, led by Molly French with seven points, including a three. Stafford scored six, Hastings hit another three-pointer, and Braylin Auvenshine had a pair. Jorgensen and Armstrong each added a pair for Bradford. Entering the final frame, the Lady Rebels led 47-20.
McKenzie sealed the victory with a 19-14 tilt in the fourth, led by Auvenshine with nine points, including a three. Aurora Johnson scored five points. Ashley Dunavant and Zayda Scates each had a pair, and Kallie Hudgins hit a free throw. Reynolds led the Lady Red Devils with eight, including a three. Armstorng had four points, and Princess Cain had a pair.
Lady Rebel Jaycee Stafford led all scorers with 21 points, including a trio of three-pointers. Braylin Auvenshine scored eleven points with a three, and Ava Hastings had ten with a pair of threes.
Ashlyn Reynolds and Brooklyn Armstong led Bradford with a dozen points each, Reynolds with a three-pointer.
Rebels 76, Red Devils 51
McKenzie had led 17-13 after the first frame, led by Tate Surber with seven points, including a three-pointer. Cole Brown scored five with a three, Carter Kee also hit a three, and Landon Brown had a pair. Carver Cates led Bradford with eleven points, including a trio of three-pointers. Quacey Lewis had a pair.
The Rebels pulled away with a 23-6 advantage in the second quarter, led by Surber with 14 points, including a pair of threes. L. Brown hit a three, and Craegen Travis also scored three points. Kee added a pair, and C. Brown hit a freebie. Lewis, Jax Richardson and Brodie McDaniel each had a pair for the Red Devils. At the half, the Rebels led 40-19.
McKenzie had a 20-19 edge in the third, led by Kee and Surber with seven points each (Kee with a three-pointer). L. Brown scored four, and Travis added a pair. McDaniel scored seven for Bradford with a three. Richardson hit a three-pointer, and Lewis also scored three points. Cates, Jax Street and Princeton Cain each had a pair. Heading into the final frame, McKenzie led 60-38.
The Rebels capped the win with a 16-13 tilt in the fourth, led by C. Brown with six points. Kee scored four, and Avery Brown hit a three-pointer. Kason Brown had a pair, and Travis hit a freebie. Richardson scored eight for Bradford with a three, and Street scored five points, also with a three-pointer.
Rebel Tate Surber led all scorers with 28 points, including a trio of threes. Carter Kee scored 16 with a pair of threes, and Cole Brown had a dozen points with a three.
Red Devils Carver Cates and Jax Richardson each scored 13 points, Cates with a trio of three-pointers and Richardson with a pair.
