McKenzie Falls to Late Houston County Burst

McKENZIE (April 9) — McKenzie High School hosted Houston County Thursday for a district softball contest. It was a tight, low-scoring game through five innings, but the visiting Lady Irish finished on two big frames to claim a 15-4 win.
McKenzie struck first with a run in the bottom of the first. Houston County tied it with a run in the top of the third, then took the lead with one in the fourth. The Lady Rebels tied it in the home half, but the Lady Irish plated a go-ahead run in the top of the fifth. They opened up the lead with five runs in the sixth. McKenzie answered with a pair in the bottom half, but Houston County pulled away with seven in the seventh.
Lady Rebel Aurora Johnson was 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Braylin Auvenshine was 1-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and a run scored. Kynadie Brown was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk. Addyson Littleton was 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Haylee Beard was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Maggie Hall was 1-for-4.
Houston County's Addie Horn was 3-for-5 with a home run, one RBI and two runs scored. Jakelyn Boone was 1-for-5 with a home run, four RBIs and a run scored. Peyton Brooks was 2-for-5 with a double, three RBIs, four runs scored and five stolen bases. Ally Mitchell was 3-for-5 with an RBI, two runs scored and three stolen bases. Kylee Smith was 1-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and a stolen base. Kenleigh Finch was 1-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored. Preslee Moore was 1-for-5 with a double and a run scored.
Brilee Anderson earned the complete-game win for the Lady Irish, allowing four earned runs on eight hits while walking one and striking out nine.
Aurora Johnson took the complete-game loss for McKenzie, allowing 15 runs (eight earned) on 12 hits while walking two and striking out three.
