McKenzie Moves Forward with 2026 Paving Project

McKENZIE (August 13) — The McKenzie City Council on Thursday approved a bid offer for the city's next big paving project, which is now expected to begin within the next month. The project starts with David Street and continues with Field Street, Locust Avenue, the parking lot at theDEPOT and the parking lot adjacent to the former JT's Grill.

After reviewing bids from Pavement Restorations, Inc., Murray Paving Inc. and Martin Paving Company, the council moved forward with Martin Paving Company's low bid offer of $268,000.

A Martin Paving Company representative was unable to indicate the company's soonest start date, but he assured the council that the project could begin within a month of agreement.

The $268,000 project includes vegetation removal, surface cleaning, preparatory paving repairs and crack sealing, any incidental repair, excavation and preparation (milling) of the subgrade for the streets with installation and compaction of mineral aggregate base, replace/repair asphalt/concrete curbing as needed, painting pavement lines and resurfacing streets with a 2-inch layer of compacted hot mix asphalt paving. It totals a little over 1,800 tons.

The David Street project starts at Cole Street and ends at Highway 79, the Field Street project begins at Locust Avenue and ends at Magnolia Avenue and the Locust Avenue project starts at Mulberry Street and ends at Park Street. The parking lot at theDEPOT begins at Lee Avenue and ends at Bruce Street, and the parking lot beside the former JT's Grill begins at Cedar Street and ends at University Drive.
