Memorial Day Ceremonies Planned

McKenzie Memorial Day Program
The speaker is Reverend Garrett Burns, a reserve chaplain with the U.S. Navy. Traditionally, veterans place a wreath at the War Memorial in Veterans Park, downtown McKenzie. Placing the wreath is Dana Deem, retired Air Force representing the American Legion and Steve Davis, VFW Post 4939 commander, U.S. Army retired.

Randy McCadams, U.S. Army retired, will offer the prayer and a patriotic poem, Ady Freeman will provide patriotic music selections, and Mayor Griffin will introduce the featured speaker.

The event is 10 a.m. with the public invited to attend. Lawn chairs are recommended, but some bleacher seating is usually available. Refreshments are available and served by the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

Town of Huntingdon
The Town of Huntingdon is hosting the 21st Annual Memorial Day Ceremony at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 27, 2024 at Thomas Park on East Main Street in Huntingdon. The ceremony will memorize those who died in military service to our country, along with veterans and active military personnel. There will be reserved seating for veterans and a red carnation for every veteran who registers prior to the ceremony. Registration for veterans begins at 9:15 a.m.

Walter Butler of Huntingdon is the featured speaker.

Bring your lawn chairs and join us in this annual event. What better way to begin the Memorial Day than with a gathering of friends and family to remember those who faithfully served and to honor those who remain and those still serving.

In the event of rain, the ceremony will be at the Huntingdon Middle School Gymnasium.

Liberty All Church
Liberty All Church, 2415 Old Stage Road, Huntingdon is hosting its annual program on Sunday, May 26, 10:45 a.m. Master Sergeant Tyler Shaw of the Tennessee National Guard is the guest speaker. He enlisted in 2007 and deployed in 2009 in support of operation Iraqi Freedom. He started his career as a recruiter in 2017 and is assigned to Shelby County as the recruiting station chief for West Tennessee.

All veterans in attendance will be recognized. The names of the 77 veterans buried at Liberty All will be announced and flags placed at their graves.

The program will conclude with the playing of Taps.
