MMS Rebels Win Season Finale
From the May 7, 2019 e-Edition
McKENZIE (April 30) — The Middle School Rebels played host to another set of Rebels from Obion County last Tuesday in their regular season finale. After blanking Obion in the top of the first, MMS’s Rebels got off to a hot start scoring 10 runs in the bottom of the first with nearly everyone getting hits early.
Jackson Cassidy scored twice during the inning while Braden Birmingham, Ty Anderson, Chaten Bivens, Tate Surber, Hayden Garrett, Landon Brown, Lane Anderson, and Jake Cassidy all scored solo runs.
The second inning went scoreless for both teams and it appeared that the game might get mercy-ruled in the third with McKenzie leading 10-0 and Obion had two outs but they scored a pair of runs and kept the game alive. Obion scored three more runs in the top of the fifth inning to make it 10-5.
The remainder of the game went scoreless but it was still eventful as Nolan Renfroe pitched his way out of a bases-loaded jam after coming in relief of starting pitcher Jackson Cassidy.
McKenzie earned the 10 runs off 11 hits while Obion scored five on six hits. Cassidy gets the win giving up two runs on one hit while striking out four and walking 3 during three innings of work. Renfro came in relief for three innings giving up three runs on five hits while striking out 1 and walking four. Dawson Brush came in the top of the seventh inning and closed out the contest retiring all three batters he faced striking out two of them.
McKenzie Middle finishes the regular season 12-4 and will participate in post-season action.
