Monster Inning Lifts War Eagles Over Madison, 24-7

JACKSON (March 23) — The West Carroll High School War Eagles traveled Monday to face Madison Academic for a baseball contest on the campus of the University of Memphis - Lambuth. After going back-and-forth in the early innings, the Mustangs had a one-run lead before the War Eagles exploded for 18 runs in the top of the sixth to seal a 24-7 win.

West Carroll struck first with three runs in the top of the first. Madison responded with two in the home half, then took the lead with two more in the second. The War Eagles added three in the top of the third, but the Mustangs tied it with another two-run frame in the bottom. Madison took the lead with a run in the fifth before West Carroll's big inning put the game away.

War Eagle Briggs West was 3-for-4 with a walk, four RBIs, three runs scored and three stolen bases. R.Q. Thompson was 3-for-5 with a sacrifice fly, five RBIs, two runs scored and two stolen bases. J.W. Rushing was 2-for-4 with a triple, a double, three RBIs and three runs scored. Sawyer Jackson was 2-for-3 with three RBIs, two runs scored and three stolen bases. Jason Roberts was 2-for-4 with a walk, three RBIs, three runs scored and three stolen bases.

War Eagle Harlan Hames was 2-for-4 with a double, two walks, two RBIs, three runs scored and a stolen base. Eli Bryant was 0-for-3 with two walks, an RBI and two runs scored. Caleb Vermillion was 0-for-1 with a walk, four runs scored and two stolen bases. Parker Newman was 0-for-4 with a walk, a run scored and two stolen bases.

J.W. Rushing got the start for West Carroll, allowing seven runs (five earned) on three hits while walking five and striking out three in four and a third innings. Harlan Hames pitched the final two-thirds of an inning, allowing no runs on three hits and a walk.
