HUNTINGDON (September 14) — Rachel Sawyers, 38, of Huntingdon was booked into Carroll County Jail on Monday afternoon. Sawyers is charged with Theft of Property over $1,000 and Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card. Her bond was set at $2,000.

A Carroll County grand jury indicted Rachel Sawyers on two Class E felony charges alleging theft and unauthorized debit card use involving funds belonging to the Clarksburg School Parent Teacher Organization.

The alleged offenses occurred between October 1, 2024, and September 30, 2025, according to the two-count indictment filed September 14 in Carroll County Circuit Court.

The first count alleges Sawyers knowingly or intentionally obtained or exercised control over cash belonging to the Clarksburg School PTO without the organization’s consent and with the intent to deprive it of the money. The amount cited in the indictment was more than $1,000 but less than $2,500.

Sawyers was charged in the first count with theft of property in violation of Tennessee Code Annotated §39-14-103(a), which the indictment identifies as a Class E felony.

The second count alleges Sawyers knowingly or intentionally used a debit card issued to the Clarksburg School PTO while knowing the use had not been authorized by the organization. That count also cites an amount of more than $1,000 but less than $2,500.

Sawyers was charged in the second count with fraudulent use of a debit card in violation of Tennessee Code Annotated §39-14-118(b)(4), also identified in the indictment as a Class E felony.

The indictment was signed by District Attorney General Pro Tem Brittany Lavalle and filed by Carroll County Circuit Court Clerk Sarah Bradberry.

An indictment is a formal accusation and does not constitute evidence of guilt. Sawyers is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
