Rebels Edge Greenfield for First Win, Lady Rebels Fall

McKENZIE (November 23) — McKenzie High School hosted Greenfield Saturday afternoon for a pair of Hall of Champions (preseason) contests. The short-handed Rebels picked up a gritty first win, 66-63, on the back of Carter Kee’s 33 points. The Lady Yellowjackets leaned heavily on the three for a 61-36 win over the Lady Rebels.
Greenfield Lady Yellowjackets 61, McKenzie Lady Rebels 36
Greenfield jumped out to a 28-10 lead after the opening frame, led by Rayanna Fisher with ten points, including a pair of three-pointers. Jayleigh Bowers scored seven with a three, and Brenley Little scored five, also with a three. Jolie Lunsford and Ashlee Sullivan each hit a three-pointer. Lady Rebels Sophie Pate and Ava Hastings each hit a three, and Molly French and Jaycee Stafford each had a pair.
McKenzie doubled up Greenfield, 14-7, to cut the deficit in the second quarter, led by Stafford with four points. Hastings and Braylin Auvenshine each hit a three, and French and Madelin Gottshall each had a pair. Fisher scored four for Greenfield, and Lunsford hit a three. At the half, the Lady Yellowjackets led 35-24.
Greenfield enjoyed an 18-9 tilt in the third, led by Bowers with eight points, including a pair of threes. Fisher scored five with a three, Little had three points, and Emma Capps had a pair. Stafford scored four for McKenzie, Pate hit a three, and Auvenshine added a pair. Entering the final frame, Greenfield led 53-33.
The Lady Yellowjackets had an 8-3 advantage in the fourth, led by Bowers with a three and Fisher with three points. Capps added a pair. Lady Rebel Addison Milam hit a three-pointer.
Lady Yellowjacket Rayanna Fisher led all scorers with 22 points, including a trio of threes. Jayleigh Bowers scored 18 with four three-pointers.
Jaycee Stafford led McKenzie with ten points.
Rebels 66, Yellowjackets 63
Greenfield had a 12-11 edge after the first frame, led by Nick Brown with six points on a pair of threes. Brady Archie, Easton Sullivan and Caden Sparkman each had a pair. Rebel Cayden Ownby scored six on a pair of three-pointers, Nolan Fawcett hit a three, and Landyn Smith had a pair.
The Yellowjackets had a 17-13 advantage in the second quarter, led by Brown with ten points, including another pair of threes. Cruze Porter hit a three, and Sullivan and Sparkman each added a pair. Rebel Carter Kee scored four points, and Smith, Fawcett and Ownby each hit a three-pointer. At the half, Greenfield led 29-24.
Greenfield enjoyed a 24-23 tilt in the third, led by Anthony Green with nine points, including a pair of threes. Archie, Sullivan and Sparkman each scored four points, and Porter hit a three. Kee led McKenzie with 17 points, including a trio of three-pointers. Ownby hit a three, Ace Brown had a pair, and Fawcett hit a freebie. Heading into the final frame, the Yellowjackets led 53-47.
The Rebels rallied 19-10 in the fourth for the win, led by Kee with a dozen points on four threes. Smith and Eli Vinson each hit a three, and A. Brown hit a free throw. Green and Porter each hit threes for Greenfield, and Archie and Sparkman each added a pair.
Rebel Carter Kee led all scorers with 33 points, including seven three-pointers. Cayden Ownby scored a dozen on four threes.
Nick Brown led Greenfield with 16 points, including four three-pointers. Anthony Green had a dozen with a trio of threes.
