From the Apr 22, 2025 e-Edition
McKENZIE (April 17) — McKenzie High School hosted Union City Thursday for a district soccer match. Rebel Jony Hernandez scored a tie-breaking goal with 33 seconds to play for a 2-1 win.
McKenzie stepped up the intensity in the final minute with a 1-1 tie, relentlessly attacking the Tornadoes’ goal.
Hernandez fired a shot from close to the goal, which was stopped, but not secured, by the Union City keeper. The freshman striker was all over the deflection, firing again, this time into a wide-open goal.
Guillermo Hickman scored McKenzie’s other goal.
Goalkeeper Nate Dameron recorded six saves in the victory.
