Sycamore Edges Mustangs in Opener, 2-1

HUNTINGDON (May 8) — The Huntingdon Mustangs began the Region 6AA Baseball Tournament with a 2-1 loss in extra innings to the Sycamore War Eagles Friday night, sending them to the consolation bracket on Saturday.

Sycamore got on the board quickly with a run in the top of the first. The score was stagnant until Huntingdon tied it in the bottom of the sixth. The War Eagles scored the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth.

Mustang Broox Bennett was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Hayes Eubanks was 1-for-3 with a walk and two stolen bases.

War Eagle Hazen Shirer was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Nolan McVay was 1-for-2 with two walks and a stolen base. Owen McMahan was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Kyler Perkins was 1-for-2.

Owen McMahan earned the win for Sycamore, allowing one unearned run on two hits while walking two and striking out 15 in seven and a third innings. Kyler Perkins threw the final two-thirds of an innings, allowing no runs, hits or walks with one strikeout.

Caleb Ezell got the start for Huntingdon, allowing one unearned run on three hits while walking three and striking out seven in seven and a third innings. Cy Hankins threw the final two-thirds of an inning and took the loss, allowing one unearned run on two hits with no walks.
