Weakley County Schools Announces March 2026 Feature Teachers

Weakley County Schools is proud to recognize our March Feature Teachers, two educators whose leadership, innovation and commitment to student growth are making a meaningful difference in our classrooms.

This month, we honor Kara Atkins from Gleason School, representing the Pre-K-5th grade band, and Missy Estes from Sharon School, representing the 6-12th grade band. Both educators go above and beyond to support their students, build meaningful relationships and keep learning right alongside them.

As part of the tradition, honorees were surprised by school and district leaders and presented with the district’s 6-foot traveling Feature Teacher trophy, a symbol of excellence that remains in their classroom for the month.

At Gleason School, Kara Atkins is being recognized for the thoughtful and creative ways she supports her students. She’s created hands-on learning spaces and added activities that help students build strength and confidence, while also sharing those ideas with other teachers.

“Mrs. Atkins saw what her students needed and took the action to make changes that would truly help them,” said Lee Lawrence, Principal at Gleason School. “She’s created a classroom where students can learn in ways that meet their needs, and that’s making a real difference not just for those students, but for our entire school.”

At Sharon School, Missy Estes is being honored for stepping outside her comfort zone to expand opportunities for students. She leads the school’s garden initiative connected to the Innovate Africa grant and has introduced 3D printing in her classroom, increasing engagement and real-world learning. Known for strong relationships, she creates an environment where students feel supported and heard.

“Mrs. Estes is always thinking about how she can do more for her students and bring new opportunities into her classroom,” said Dr. Michelle Clements, Principal at Sharon School. “She creates a space where students feel supported, stay engaged and truly enjoy being part of the learning process.”

Assistant Director of Schools Betsi Foster noted the broader impact of this month’s honorees.

“Mrs. Atkins and Mrs. Estes each reflect what it means to put students first,” said Foster. “Mrs. Atkins’ focus on meeting student needs and Mrs. Estes’ willingness to step in and create new opportunities highlight how intentional teaching shapes student success across our district.”
