West Carroll High School Greenhouse Receives Key Updates

ATWOOD (August 28) - West Carroll High School has completed essential updates to its greenhouse just in time for the new growing season. 

Originally built in 2012 by Mr. Dennis Stokes and his students, the greenhouse has been a cornerstone for West Carroll's agriculture program. The facility's clear polycarbonate walls and ceiling, which have a lifespan of about ten years, were replaced thanks to grants and other funding.

Agriculture teacher Noah Rogers emphasizes the greenhouse's role in providing hands-on learning. Students grow hydroponic tomatoes, lettuce in the fall, and flowers, ferns, and vegetable seedlings in spring. The greenhouse is managed by work-based learning students who have completed plant science courses, offering them leadership opportunities and practical experience.

The culmination of their efforts is showcased during the annual public sale in late April, where the community can purchase the students' produce and plants.
