West Carroll Students Combine Spelling, Friendly Competition

Atwood — Students in Ms. Krystle McCall’s second-grade class at West Carroll Primary School recently combined spelling instruction with friendly competition during a classroom game of Snakes and Ladders.

The activity provided students with an interactive way to practice words that follow the doubling rule when suffixes are added. As students moved across the game board, they read words aloud, applied spelling rules and worked with classmates to reinforce the concept.

The hands-on lesson encouraged participation while helping students build confidence with an important spelling skill. Each roll of the dice provided another opportunity for students to think critically, practice correct word forms and cheer on their classmates.

“These types of games motivate and encourage the students to have fun while learning,” McCall said.

Through the classroom activity, students demonstrated that learning spelling rules can be both educational and enjoyable.
