Wildcats Fall to Lindsey Wilson on Senior Day

McKENZIE (November 15) — On a day built to honor Bethel’s seniors, the Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders had plans of their own.

From the opening kickoff to the final whistle, the visitors controlled the pace and handed the Wildcats a tough 33-14 loss Saturday afternoon at Walter Butler Stadium.

Bethel fell to 4-5 (3-3 MSC) with the defeat, while Lindsey Wilson improved to 9-1 (5-1 MSC) in a performance powered by efficiency, explosiveness and overwhelming time of possession. With the victory and Campbellsville’s loss at Georgetown, the Blue Raiders won the MSC title.

What was supposed to be a celebratory Senior Day soon became an uphill battle.

Lindsey Wilson struck quickly, scoring two touchdowns in a span of just under two minutes. Blue Raider quarterback Tate Rice found Max Gainey for a nine-yard touchdown at 10:29, followed by a 10-yard strike to Khia Sherrard at 8:51 to make it 13-0.

The Wildcats struggled to find early momentum, with offensive drives stalling and field position tilting heavily in the Blue Raiders’ favor. A 33-yard field goal from Jadan Burns stretched the lead to 16–0 midway through the second quarter. With just under two minutes before halftime, Lindsey Wilson added a dagger when Stevin Mack powered in from 16 yards out, pushing the margin to 23-0 at the break.

The second half opened much like the first. Bethel’s defense found flashes of toughness, but Lindsey Wilson’s efficiency continued to shine. Burns hit his second field goal of the afternoon–this one from 27 yards–to make it 26-0.

Moments later, Rice delivered another big play, connecting with Gainey again, this time for a 45-yard strike that ballooned the lead to 33-0. Gainey finished with a monster day: nine receptions, 158 yards and two touchdowns.

Although the scoreboard was lopsided, Bethel’s playmakers refused to quit. In one of the game’s electrifying moments, Ryan Kirk took a handoff, hit a crease and torched the defense for a 75-yard touchdown sprint at the 4:31 mark of the third quarter, cutting the deficit to 33-7. Kirk was a bright spot all afternoon, racking up 168 rushing yards on 12 carries, averaging an incredible 14 yards per attempt.

Early in the fourth, Bethel struck again—this time on a 64-yard burst from Jarvis Stockton, who made the most of his limited touches with 68 yards on just two carries.

His score brought the Wildcats within 33-14, where the game would ultimately finish.

Despite the final score, Bethel’s ground game was sensational, piling up 296 rushing yards on just 28 attempts. However, the Wildcats were hampered by: just ten first downs; going 0-for-8 on third downs; only 18:02 of possession time compared to Lindsey Wilson’s 41:58; and struggles in the passing game (4-13 for 42 yards).

Defensively, Darrien Lewis led the Wildcats with ten tackles, while Brylan Jordan added nine and Malik Brown contributed six with a tackle for loss.

Though the Wildcats couldn’t secure a victory for their senior class, the closing moments of the game showed pride, grit and explosive ability that defined the day more than the scoreboard.

Two huge touchdown runs, a determined defensive front and a sideline full of emotion underscored what Bethel football stands for.
