HUNTINGDON (November 11) — On Tuesday, Dr. Brock Martin (R), won in the general election to serve in the Tennessee House of Representatives for District 79. Dr. Martin easily defeated the Democratic challenger Thomas Jefferson by taking in over 81% of the vote. He is replacing retired representative Curtis Halford. more

GLEASON (December 22) — After 50 years of service with the Bank of Gleason, Martha Arnold will step aside as president and serve in a consulting role. December 31, 2023, will be her last day as president and Preston Frazier will move into the role. Martha has served in this role since 2011, when at that time she became the first female President of the Bank of Gleason. more

MAYFIELD (December 18) — After 24 years, the remains of a man found in Lake Barkley have been identified as Roger Dale Parham, a fugitive wanted for rape in Arkansas. In May 1999, fishermen on Kentucky Lake dredged a man’s remains. According to officials with the Kentucky State Police, the body was “wrapped in heavy tire chains and anchored with a hydraulic jack.” more

MARTIN, Tenn. – Several Carroll County residents were among students who received degrees from the University of Tennessee at Martin during fall commencement ceremonies held Dec. 9, 2023.  Some 345 students participated in UTM’s fall commencement ceremonies, which officially awarded degrees to eligible students from both the summer and fall semesters. more

Martin, and son-in-law, Jason R. Martin at the law offices of Washburn and Hutcherson in Dresden, Tenn. more
PARIS (December 19) — The remains that were found near Russell Street in Paris December 8 have been positively identified by the Tennessee State Medical Examiner’s office. more
After months of discussion and debate, the Henry County Commission and the Henry County Medical Center’s board of trustees have given their blessing to move forward with the sale of the Henry County Healthcare Center. Since the property is held by the hospital, the county’s private act of 1953, which created the hospital, has to be amended and accepted by both houses of the Tennessee Legislature and the governor. more

NASHVILLE — Tennessee Governor Bill Lee signed the Tennessee Disability and Aging Act, legislation that merges Tennessee’s Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (DIDD) and Commission on Aging and Disability (TCAD), creating a new Department of Disability and Aging (DDA). The bill received unanimous, bipartisan legislative support and was backed by numerous stakeholders. more
