McKENZIE (September 14) — During the regular meeting of McKenzie City Council, the petition to de-annex properties 433, 487 and 586 Carroll St., collectively known as Holland Farms, failed to receive a second following a motion to not approve by Councilman Tom Alexander. Without another motion to discuss or approve, the petition can go back before the Council at a later date or can be ignored. more

HUNTINGDON (September 8) — During a called meeting on Friday, the Huntingdon Mayor and Town Council voted to purchase three 2023 pickup trucks from Lonnie Cobb Ford at a price of $131,334 for the Utility Department and one Ford F150 4x4 at a price of $43,778 from Lonnie Cobb along with five 20233 trucks for the Street and Parks Department for $218,890. All vehicles are quoted at the state bid price. more
Bethel University along with the Carroll County Government and the Town of Huntingdon agreed to enter into an education partnership. In this agreement, Bethel University will extend a reduced tuition rate to both governments’ employees enrolling in Bethel’s on-line degree programs. This would include undergraduate degrees, graduate criminal justice tuition, and graduate business tuition. Bethel is also extending the benefit of a waived application fee to the employees applying to any of these programs. more

McKENZIE (September 11) — With the passage of Tennessee House Bill 0938, Holland Farms, located in McKenzie along Carroll Street, which is the residence of former McKenzie Mayor Jill Holland, has requested through a petition to begin the de-annexation process. The bill, passed in April 2023, in essence allows for the de-annexation of agricultural property meeting certain guidelines. The bill amends Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 6, Chapter 51, relative to municipal boundaries. more
HUNTINGDON (September 9) — The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life fund-raising event was held Saturday after a three-year absence due to the COVID pandemic. The scaled-down event was a good start to reinvigorate the event that once raised significant funds for the eradication of cancer. more
ATWOOD (September 7) — The West Carroll Special School District school board approved a $10 million budget for the 2024 fiscal year at their meeting Thursday, Sept. 7. This budget includes a 6.25 percent salary increase for all employees of the district. more
