McKENZIE (October 12) — After two months of discussion, the McKenzie City Board of Mayor and Council voted against the de-annexation of Holland Farms, LLC by a split vote of 4-3. Voting against de-annexation were Councilpersons Bobby Young, Carol Armpriest and Tom Alexander; Mayor Ryan Griffin broke the tie with a no vote. Voting in favor of the Hollands were Councilpersons Charles Pruneau, Josefina Batton and Vice Mayor Jessie Townes.

KAILUA-KONA, HI — An elite field of professional triathletes from around the globe is preparing to descend on Kailua-Kona, Hawaii for the first-ever women’s edition of the 2023 VinFast IRONMAN World Championship. On Saturday, October 14, the race will see, in addition to the pros, more than 2,000 age-group women swim, bike, and run in this iconic and historic location, just a few weeks after their male counterparts raced in Nice, France.

McKENZIE (September 14) — During the regular meeting of McKenzie City Council, the petition to de-annex properties 433, 487 and 586 Carroll St., collectively known as Holland Farms, failed to receive a second following a motion to not approve by Councilman Tom Alexander. Without another motion to discuss or approve, the petition can go back before the Council at a later date or can be ignored.
