HUNTINGDON (June 2) — The Second Harvest Food Bank teamed up with the Carroll County Library Friday, June 2, to host a mobile food pantry at the Carroll County Civic Center. Trucks dropped 24 pallets of bread, yogurt, shelf stable items and produce off at the Civic Center parking lot at 7:15 a.m., and volunteers arrived at 8 to organize and set up for the food drive. more

The Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) hosted its second annual Tech Discovery Camp for rising eighth graders May 22-26 for Bruceton and Clarksburg students and May 30-June 2 for McKenzie students. The camp was introduced last summer as a way to introduce students to technical career options. more

The Bethel/Eastside Family and Community Education (FCE) group met May 11 in Mary and Pennye Mays’ home. Ten members attended. more

After a month-long competition to master the most words in Vocabulary.com’s 2023 Spring Training Challenge, McKenzie Middle School students took first place in their division. The students collectively learned and mastered 29,850 words. more

(May 26) — The May meeting of the McKenzie Garden Club was at the home of Mona Batchelor. The devotional was given by Marsha French who shared a poem entitled “What Heaven Means to Me” in which the writer enumerates the joys awaiting us in Heaven. These included: no night, no tears, no sorrow, sin, nor death; perfect weather and being reunited with loved one; meeting the old saints and hearing their stories; and, of course, seeing Jesus and living in His presence. more

The Tennessee Department of Education released scores from the spring English/language arts (ELA) TCAP assessment Wednesday, May 25, revealing that more than half of Tennessee’s third-grade students are not meeting proficiency in the subject. While some area schools have higher proficiency percentages than the statewide average, McKenzie, Hollow-Rock/Bruceton, Milan and West Carroll special school districts have found their percentages below the state average. more

McKENZIE (May 22) — The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new $300,000 pickleball courts in McKenzie was Monday, May 22. more

The monthly meeting of the Inglenook Book Club was May 10, 202, at Lakeside Senior Living Community in McKenzie, with 18 members in attendance. President Carolyn Moore called the meeting to order and extended a thank-you to hostesses Geneva Johnson and Shirley Martin. The ladies graciously served delicious warm peach cobbler topped with ice cream, assorted nut medley, and assorted beverages. The tables were decorated with tulip-designed napkins, and little spring baskets holding the assorted nut medley. more

Carroll County’s annual Relay for Life event returns Saturday, Sept. 9, for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic. The event, held at the Carroll County Civic Center, helps the American Cancer Society (ACS) fundraise and raise public awareness of benefits for cancer patients. more

McKenzie/Carroll County United Neighbors received a donation of 567 healthy food items (weighing a total of 430.37 pounds) for our first Food Drive event during April promoting Food Waste Awareness. It is expected to be an annual event. more

The McKenzie Elementary School celebrated the end of their 4th nine-weeks of school by honoring students with high or improving grades. The school released the names of students who made the Honor and Merit Rolls and the recipients of the individual Principal’s P.R.I.D.E. Reading, Principal’s P.R.I.D.E. Math, B.U.G. (Bringing Up Grades) and Citizenship awards. more
