McKENZIE  - Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Jo Brewer Simmons are Saturday, August 6, 2022, at 1 p.m. at Brummitt McKenzie Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Saturday, 11 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow at Carroll Memorial Gardens.

She was born June 11, 1934 and died August 1, 2022. 

Mrs. Simmons, died August 1, 2022, at AHC McKenzie after living the past year with the loving and caring staff at Lakeside Retirement Center. She had a servant-heart and never met a stranger. She loved Grace Baptist Church where she worshipped for many years. She worked at Brown Shoe until its closing and later retired from Mark 1. During her retirement years, she was a blessing to the Rider family (Lance and Hollye), as she became a third grandmother to Carson (Jesse), Alex (Rebecca), Braxton (Mikayla) and Anders (Lexi). She was preceded in death by her husbands, Thomas Brewer of 35 years and Ed Simmons.

She is survived by three step-daughters from her marriage to Mr. Brewer, Ruby Dill of Nokomis, Florida, Diane (Ken) McIntosh of Covington, Georgia and Brenda McGouirk of Krum, Texas, siblings, Shelby Jean Massey, William Tex (Elaine) Powell, Larry Powell, Louise (Alan) Hannah, and Rocky Delane (Etta Lou) Powell, nieces, Charlotte Yell, Laurie Wynn, Carla Hicks, Charlsie Matthews, and Joy Wooten; nephews, Ricky Massey, Paul Hannah, Wayne, Adam, Jeremiah and Joshua Powell and

Besides her parents and husbands, she is preceded in death by her siblings, George “Red” Powell, Morrell Powell, Janie Mae (Charles) Felts and Elaine Powell.
