McKENZIE — Jamie Brown is now a nationally recognized certified school nurse (NCSN). The award was announced by her parents Mr. and Mrs. Reggie Wiggins. She is the first-ever nurse at McKenzie Special School District to acquire the certification from the National Board for the Certification of School Nurses. She is a nurse at McKenzie High School.

Brown is Certified School Nurse

McKENZIE — Jamie Brown is now a nationally recognized certified school nurse (NCSN). The award was announced by her parents Mr. and Mrs. Reggie Wiggins. She is the first-ever nurse at McKenzie Special School District to acquire the certification from the National Board for the Certification of School Nurses. She is a nurse at McKenzie High School.
 
In addition to meeting eligibility, consisting of education and practice requirements, Jamie has successfully passed the national certification exam, which validates specialized knowledge in school nursing, indicates a level of clinical competence and the attainment of a rigorous practice standard. The exam consisted of 200 questions with a four-hour time limit. Jamie took approximately one year to study and prepare for the certification. The minimal score is 620 with a maximum of 700. Jamie completed the exam with a score of 679 in three hours.
 
Successful candidates demonstrate excellence and experience in the areas of health appraisal, health problems and nursing management, health promotion and disease prevention, special health issues, professional issues and research.
