Huntingdon American Legion Post #47 Golf Scramble
The Huntingdon American Legion Post #47 Golf Scramble is Saturday, October 5 at Carroll Lake Golf Course. You don’t need to have ever swung a club. Let this be your first time. New Hours
Effective October 1, 2024, The McKenzie Banner and TCP Print Shop have new hours. Hours of operation are Monday-Thursday 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and Friday 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.; closed on weekends. Holiday hours are subject to change. If you need assistance outside of our hours, e-mail banner@mckenziebanner.com.
Office Closed October 17-18
The McKenzie Banner and TCP Print Shop will be closed on Thursday, October 17 through Friday, October 18 for Fall Break. We will reopen on Monday, October 21. Thank you for allowing us this time with our family.
Verizon Fundraiser for Kaitlyn Reed Family
Verizon in McKenzie is raising funds for the family of Kaitlyn Reed, who died at age 19 on September 1 of a fentanyl overdose. 100 percent of the funds raised go to Kaitlyn’s funeral expenses. Support her family by purchasing any RC Cares products or making a cash donation.
Sheila Rogers 90th Birthday
You are all invited to join Sheila Rogers and her family to celebrate her 90th birthday on Sunday, October 6 at 1:30 p.m. at Lakeside Senior Living in the multi-purpose room downstairs.
Carroll County E911 Board Meeting
The Carroll County Emergency Communications Board meets Monday, October 7 at 11 a.m. in the Sheriff’s Office training room at 200 Norandal Drive, Huntingdon. Citizens desiring to publicly comment on an agenda item must register with the district at 731-986-8911. A copy of the Public Comment Policy may be obtained at the district office at 101 Dillahunty Lane, Huntingdon.
McKenzie Senior Center Events
Saturday, October 5 is the monthly dance party with Larry Morgan. Music starts at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $6.
Saturday, October 12 is the annual pancake breakfast. Pancakes, sausage, orange juice, milk or coffee. Serving from 7-11 a.m. Tickets available in advance from a member or at the door. Adults $7. Kids $5.
Saturday October 19 is the bi-monthly karaoke/dance night. Come and sing or come and dance. Or come to do both! Free admission and you don’t have to be a member. Starts at 6 p.m. KJ service provided by Steve Bomar.
MMS Title I, Parent Meeting
McKenzie Middle School’s annual Title I/Parent Involvement Meeting is Wednesday, October 2 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. in the MMS Library. All parents and guardians of MMS students are invited to attend. Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Available
The Northwest TN Economic Development Council begins accepting applications for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program October 1. This program assists low-income households through direct energy payments to their energy provider. Proof of gross household income is required to determine eligibility. Applicants must also submit a government ID, social security number verification for all household members and a current utility company print-out showing the last 12 months of usage at their current location. Individuals interested in applying for the LIHEAP Program should make an appointment at the Northwest TN Economic Development Council office in their county of residence. Funding for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program is provided through the Tennessee Housing Development Agency (THDA).
Everett’s Chapel Cemetery Meeting
Everett’s Chapel Cemetery Association will meet Sunday, October 6, 2 p.m. at the church, 1185 Union Church Road. Anyone interested in the cemetery is invited to attend.
MHS Class of 1979 Reunion
During the weekend of The McKenzie High School Alumni Association Decades Reunion, the Class of 1979 meets Saturday, October 5 at the pavilion in the City Park from 1-3 p.m. Gina Hale Gore and Mary Ann Bush Garner are planning a memorable afternoon, with refreshments, photo backdrop with fun props and reconnecting with our classmates. The McKenzie High School Class of 1970 reunion is Saturday, October 5 at 10 a.m. at the Barn at the City Park.
McKenzie TOPS to Meet
The McKenzie TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter meets on Mondays at 3 p.m. at the McKenzie Church of Christ gym. Anyone interested in losing weight can join. For more information, contact Linda Lawrence at 731-352-7309. If no answer, leave a message.
McKenzie Memorial Library’s Hours
The McKenzie Memorial Library, Broadway Street, is open, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturdays throughout the summer for the Summer Reading Program. Additionally, the library has programs on most Saturdays beginning at 11:30 a.m.
MHS Alumni Golf Tournament is October 4
The McKenzie High School Alumni Association (MHSAA) Golf Tournament is Friday, October 4 at Carroll Lake Golf Course. The tournament is a four-person scramble with a limit of 18 teams. All golfers will need to arrive by 7:45 a.m., and the shotgun start is 8 a.m.
Entry fees are $200 per team of four, and event sponsorships for businesses are available for $100 each. Sponsorships include recognition on a banner to be displayed at both the golf tournament and the MHSAA decades reunion tailgate party later that evening.
Proceeds from the event support the goals of the MHSAA, which include providing scholarships and other assistance for students of McKenzie schools.
The deadline for team registration and sponsorships is Monday, September 16.

We always have spay/neuter vouchers for cats at a cost of $50 and to be used at Paris Vet Clinic. If you need to pay with cash, come by the shelter to purchase. Yard Sale
A yard sale is Thursday-Friday, October 17-18 from 8 a.m.-noon at the shelter on Highway 22 in McKenzie.
Halloween Bingo/Soup and Cornbread
CCHS hosts Halloween Bingo and an all-you-can-eat soup and cornbread dinner Sunday, October 27 at 2 p.m. at the Carroll Bank & Trust Community Building in Huntingdon.
Carroll Democratic Party Meets
The Carroll County Democratic Party meets the third Thursday of every month at 6 p.m. at 12740 Lexington Street, Huntingdon.
Carroll Republican Party Meets
Carroll County Republican Party meets monthly each fourth Tuesday, 7 p.m. in the Public Safety Building in Huntingdon.
Carroll Commission Meets Monthly
Carroll County Commission meets the second Monday of each month, 7 p.m., in the Conference Room of the Carroll County Office Complex, High Street, Huntingdon. There are no meetings in February and July.
