Eleven Carroll County Commissioners Retire

HUNTINGDON (August 8) — Eleven commissioners convened in their last meeting of the Carroll County Commission on August 8). With a majority of new members, the 21-member commission will certainly see more new faces that anytime in recent history.
 
During the closing of the August 8 meeting, Mayor Joseph Butler honored each of the retiring commissioners and the commission as a whole for their willingness to work together and for the great culture of public service. He noted the exemplary culture of service is not always found in other counties. Butler commended former mayor Kenny McBride for being a part of that culture of service. 
 
Butler said the commissioners focused on building a strong community, 
 
Each noted the commissioners welcomed him in as the youngest mayor in Tennessee. “You welcomed me in with presumption or hesitation and helped me tremendously.” He noted many commissioners provided needed information to him as a young mayor.
 
Commissioner John Mann retired with 55 years of service. He served under seven mayors. Ronnie Murphy had 32 years. Steve Parker 24, Johnny Blount, 20, Joel Washburn, 16, Paula Watkins, 8, Gerald Scarbrough, 8, Lori Nolen, 5, Hal Eason, 8, Vince Taylor, 4, and Jeremy Fowler, 4.
 
Dr. Pam Evans, daughter of John Mann, said her dad served the people of Carroll County and went to fish fries, fundraisers, with a heart of service. She said she is the daughter of a great man. She showed the agenda for a meeting in 1967. Ruth Mann, wife of John , said John was a moral and ethical voice and worked solely for what was best for the county.
 
Each commissioner received a wooden plaque and a certificate signed by State Senator John Stevens to commemorate his or her service.
 
The Commission now consists of: Jimmy Halford*, Randy Long, Darrell Ridgely, Daniel Willman*, Lana Suite, Joey Simmons*, Larry Spencer, Daniel Thomas*, Lin Smith*, Joey Darnall*, Cyril Ostiguy*, Barry Mac Murphy, Jimmy McClure, Phillip Moore*, Manuel Crossno, Walter Smothers*, Jay Phipps, Willie Huffman, John Austin, Jason Martin* and Spiros Roditis*.
