Cary Honored as University Scholar

MARTIN (June 11) — UT Martin students were honored May 1 for completing the University Scholars Program, a four-year honors program that offers an enhanced curriculum as well as community-engagement, leadership and travel-study opportunities.
A medaling ceremony was held with faculty members, family and friends gathered in the Holland McCombs Center.
Carter Cary, of Huntingdon, was among those recognized at the ceremony. Cary was also awarded his Bachelor of Science during UT Martin’s spring commencement ceremony May 2 at the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center.
Other honorees include Nathan Link, of Oakland; Elizabeth Lattus, of Union City; Zachary Wager, of Columbus, Ind.; Mackenzie Stockton, of Sparta; Joan West, of Joelton; Karlie Seltzer, of Clifton; Ella Willis, of Middleton; Riley McClain, of Reagan; Anna Bruce, of Martin; Anthony Lain, of Pegram; Jackson Morrison, of Bartlett; and Tyler Looney, of Munford.

McKenzie School Board Approves $15.7 Million Budget
McKENZIE (July 7) — The McKenzie Special School District Board of Education approved a $15.7 million budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year during a brief meeting Tuesday afternoon. Also approved was the certified property tax rate of $.7483 per $100 assessed value, unchanged from last year. The tax rate is distributed between the General Purpose Fund ($.4898) and the Debt Service Fund ($.2585).
