Rebels Cassidy, Auvenshine are Wendy’s Heisman Candidates

McKENZIE — Jackson Cassidy and Briley Auvenshine are the McKenzie High Wendy’s Heisman candidates for 2022. 
 
The Heisman® High School Scholarship was created in 1994 through a partnership between Wendy’s® and The Heisman Trophy Trust. From its inception, the program has leveraged the reputation of the Heisman Memorial Trophy as a symbol of great ability combined with diligence, perseverance, and hard work. The Heisman High School Scholarship program extends the Heisman prestige to the nation’s most esteemed high school seniors by celebrating and rewarding outstanding male and female scholar-athletes who understand that the most important victories happen not only on the field, but also in their schools and communities. 
 
Jackson is the son of George and Angela Cassidy. Jackson is on the Distinguished Scholar path at MHS meaning he is taking the most rigorous academic classes. He is a four-year member of the MHS BETA Club, attended the MHS Honors Banquet for the last three years and was a Boys State delegate in 2022. He also attended the FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) Camp in 2022. Jackson is a starter on both the Rebel Football Team and the Rebel Baseball Team. As quarterback, Jackson helped lead the 2021 Rebels to the TSSAA State Football Championship game. As a catcher for the Rebel Baseball Team Jackson also help lead the Rebels to the TSSAA State Baseball Championship game. Jackson was All-State in 2021 in both football and baseball. Jackson attends First Baptist Church in McKenzie and his future plans are to attend college and pursue a career as a pharmacist. 
 
Briley Auvenshine is the daughter of Brent and Brandi Auvenshine. Briley is also on the Distinguished Scholar path at MHS. She is a member of the MHS BETA Club and has attended MHS Honors Banquet for the last three years. Briley is a four-year member of the Lady Rebel Basketball team, where she helped lead the Rebels to win the TSSAA 2022 State Girls Basketball Championship. She has been recognized as All-District, All-Region and All-State in basketball. Briley also plays softball for the Lady Rebels and was named the MVP last year. Briley plans to attend college and pursue a career as a dentist.
