HUNTINGDON (February 7) — Martin Westview Lady Chargers edged the Huntingdon Fillies in a district battle that lived up to a promise of a championship-style game between two of the top Class 2A teams in the state.
It was Westview that prevailed 59-49 to earn the second of two games between the teams.
Westview’s 11 3-pointers played heavily in the win to compare to Huntingdon’s four 3-pointers.
For the Fillies, it was Lilly Kee with 28 points, all scored in the paint or at the foul line, to lead all scorers. For the Fillies, Lia Fuller had six, Sophie Singleton had five, including a 3-pointer, Josey Stokes had four, including a 3-pointer, Sydney Anderson had one 3-pointer, and Delaney Byars had 3 - all from the foul line.
At the end of each of the first three quarters, the Lady Chargers maintained a three-point lead until the final quarter, when the Lady Chargers added 20 points, including four 3-pointers, six foul shots, and one field goal.
The Fillies scored 11, 10, 15, and 13 in the respective quarters for a total of 49. Westview scored 14, 10, 15, and 20 in each quarter.
While Kee for the Fillies had the most points, it was Westview’s McCall Sims who pumped in 26, including six 3-pointers, two field goals, and two foul shots. Sims was followed in points by Jada Harrison with 16, including two 3-pointers, Kylee Alexander with 11, including one 3-pointer; and Jillian Brigance with 6 from two 3-pointers.
Westview Chargers Defeat Huntingdon Mustangs
HUNTINGDON (February 7) — Westview Chargers controlled the boards through the contest to claim a 73-54 over their district competitors in the final regular-season home game at Huntingdon. Brett McGuffin scored 25 points for the Chargers to lead all scorers.
The Mustangs scored 7, 12, 10, and 25 in the respective quarters for a total of 54 points. Ty Kelley led with 17 points, including one 3-pointer. He was followed by Ethan Ramsey with 11, Landon Gordon with 9, including one 3-pointer, Tycen Willis with 8, Caleb Ezell with a single 3-pointer, and E.J. Lewis, Kaleb Pearson, and Jordan Willis with 2 each.
The Chargers scored 17, 16, 22, and 18 in the respective quarters for a total of 73. Brett McGuffin scored 25, including seven 3-pointers, Dontez Joy had 14, Quincy Hamilton had 11, including one 3-pointer, Dmarion Harris had 6 including a 3-pointer, Taylor Haskins and Drew Shanklin had 6 points each, Damarion Pearson had 4 points, and Ethan Pettigrew had 1.
