  • TWRA Hosts Listening Session Concerning Carroll County 1,000-Acre Recreation Lake

    HUNTINGDON (May 24) — Hundreds of citizens of Carroll County sought answers to their questions about the Carroll County 1000-Acre Recreational Lake. The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency will soon own the fishing and recreational lake, and their inventory of managed lakes in Tennessee does not include any lakes for swimming, skiing, or pleasure boating. TWRA hosted an event on May 24 at the Carroll County Civic Center to hear the public’s comments.

  • Unemployment Rates See Slight Changes in April

    NASHVILLE — The State Department of Labor recently released the unemployment numbers for April 2022, and small changes were reported in Carroll, Henry, and Weakley counties. Unemployment rates decreased in twelve Tennessee counties, including Henry County. Sixty counties, including Carroll and Weakley, experienced slight increases in their rates in April.

    McKenzie Farmers Market Reopens Saturday, June 4, 8 a.m., 2431 Cedar Street, in downtown McKenzie. The former Studebaker dealership was converted to an indoor/outdoor farmers market and allows area citizens to sell their homemade and homegrown foods and other products.

  • TCAT-McKenzie Hosts Inaugural Tech Discovery Camp

    The Tennessee College of Applied Technology hosted its inaugural Tech Discovery Camp for rising eighth graders May 23-27. Fourteen students, recommended by McKenzie Middle School staff based on various criteria, spent the week rotating between four technical programs: Industrial Maintenance, Welding, Automotive, and Machine Tools. By the end of the week, each student spent a total of one day in each program.

    MARTIN (May 24) — Auria McClerking, of Huntingdon, and Audrie Washburn, of McKenzie, recently completed the University of Tennessee at Martin Veterinary Health Technology Program’s academic requirements. The two are now qualified to complete a six-week field internship with a veterinary clinic or research facility.

    Owen Crocker and Tate Crews were chosen from Hollow Rock-Bruceton High School to represent the American Legion Post 180 at Boys State 2022. Michael Crosby will act as an alternate to Crocker and Crews for the program.

    McKenzie/University School-Johnson City ROCKVALE (MAY 24) — The Rebel Baseball team got underway in their first game of the tournament Tuesday at 6:30 at Rockvale High School with a threat of rain in the forecast. Runs came early as University School-JC hit a solo homer in the bottom of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. University School scored another solo run in the bottom of the second making it a 2-0 lead.

    Dr. Joseph Warren died on Breed’s Hill June 17, 1775. He was 34 years old. He left four children he had been raising alone since his wife’s passing two years earlier. He graduated from Harvard, was well established in Boston and was the second President of the Massachusetts Provincial Congress, having succeeded John Hancock.
