Huntingdon Middle Sweeps West Carroll

Huntingdon Middle School played host to West Carroll in front of a great crowd at the High School gym on Monday, October 24.
 
The Middle School girls contest got off to a slow start with neither team scoring in the first half of the opening period. The Lady War Eagles got a pair of shots to fall with three minutes left in the period to take a 4-0 lead. Both teams heated up in the last few minutes of the first period with West Carroll taking a 13-6 lead at the end.
 
The Fillies outscored West Carroll 8-2 to start the second period and battled the rest of the period to make it a 15-14 game by halftime with the Lady War Eagles leading.
 
The third period was back and forth with West Carroll holding a slim 23-21 lead at the end of three periods. Huntingdon tied the game 23-23 with five minutes left in the fourth period and took the lead with a basket shortly after. Three straight baskets including a three-pointer put Huntingdon in the lead for keeps 30-23 late in the period. The Fillies won 30-25.
 
Knox Bennett led the Fillies with 12 points followed by Grier Bartholomew with seven points. Emalynn Maness and Wylie Kee had four points and three points respectively. Taylor Canovan and Adyson Roberson chipped in two each for the Fillies.
 
Taylor Robinson led West Carroll with 10 points. Airyanna Metcalf added six points while Grace Coleman and Gracelyn Vernon had four points and three points respectively. Mansa Mueller chipped in two for the Lady War Eagles.
 
The boys game started slow, but both teams kept it close and tight in the first period with the Mustangs taking a 7-5 lead on a three-pointer with 30 seconds remaining in the opening frame. West Carroll tied it 7-7 early in the second period, but Huntingdon nailed another three to go up 10-7 with three minutes left until halftime. The War Eagles bounced back with a pair of baskets to take a 11-10 lead by halftime.
 
The third period was a tight one with the two teams continuing to battle back and forth with West Carroll leading 20-19 at the end. Huntingdon took a 24-23 lead with 3:45 to play in the final period and added another quick basket to go up 26-23. They held on to the lead and won 34-32.
 
Zayden Connelly led the Mustangs with 11 points followed by Bryson Whiteside and Lucas Smith with seven and six points respectively. Hayes Eubanks added four points while Kenton Smith and Kylen Turner put up three points each for Huntingdon.
 
West Carroll was led by Darion Taylor with 18 points. Jack Robinson and Jace Hammett had four points each while Zac Fowler and Parker Bosley had three points each for the War Eagles.
